Just got back from a quick trip down to Shiloh Ranch. First trip down since the ranch changed owners. I've been to Shiloh a few times and I am happy to report that the ranch is as good or better than when the Nappers ran the place. I saw a ton of hogs and they were big.

Second hog of the day. Spot-and-stalk. Just couldn't pass up the broadside shot even if it was a bit thin. Nice teeth though.

First hog was at stand 3 in the morning. Second hog was shot spot-and-stalk on the way out to stand 5.

Okay, short story about the hunt. Due to the pandemic, my partners in crime had to bail out for various reasons and I found myself the only hunter in camp. Jon and Linda let me come down the night before and I was ready to go Friday morning. I headed to stand 3 (my nemesis) but was the best for the wind I had that day. Feeders went off by 7:15 am and a group of 6 came in at 7:25 from the north. 12 yard broadside shot. Boar ran 75 to 80 yards. Didn't see if fall but bloodtrailed to the critter. Boned out the 152 pound boar and then had lunch. Talked with Jon, the new owner for almost 2 hours (good guy). Went out to do some spot-and-stalk. Several blown stalks and one draw back but the shot never happened. Hot-footed it back to the house to get my pack and head out to stand 5 for the evening hunt. One the way, I spot a hog in the pasture and the stalk was back on. Using the tall yellow fescue as cover, I got to about 20 yards away, When the boar went broadside the arrow was on its way. Once again hog went 75-80 yards. Blood was sparse but once it opened up, it was intense.

Believe me I'm not real happy about missing the festivities last weekend. But you missed out on the rain Saturday anyway. The wind here was horrible yesterday so at least I didn't have to drive into a big headwind all the way home. Glad you had a good time.

The scene of the murder. The hog was so intent on rooting, I was able to get the wind right and use the tall grass as cover.
