I think it is impossible to take too many pictures. To the younger guys out there, take as many as you can on every adventure. I wish somebody told me this when I was younger.

Great stuff on this thread! A tip for anyone who may someday want to write an article about your hunt - take photos with a camera, not your phone. Phone pics generally aren't accepted because they are effectively "double compressed".

Killed 4 elk, my two biggest bulls, and a giant cow, within a 1/4 mile of this spot. It's magic. Every elk hunt is a victory in my book, elk or not.

If you go into that flat after an elk, you had better be very prepared, fit, and knowledgeable. Compasses don't work in there, and its all chunky, uneven ground, sharp lava rock, and no place to screw up. And it almost never stops raining in the fall there. But the big bulls go there. Good luck.

Mt. St. Helens is about 14 miles in a direct line of sight in this picture, if the clouds weren't there. Going in to a very elky hole to track some bulls down hopefully. A look back to the trailhead on the way in.
