Just booked an Alaska caribou hunt for 2021 and need a pack....something to day hunt with that’s able to pack meat. Thanks! John
I'm a fan of the Kifaru Muskeg.

Well, that was an impressive glitch...
I think Oryx likes the Kifaru Muskeg.
Not saying a word. I’ve done the same thing ??
Get something in the 5000 ci range. Kifaru has a ton of bag choices.
With that said, one of my favorites for this application Is the Stone Glacier 5900.
If you’re not sure how much you’re going to use a pack like this and you don’t want to drop $600-$800, KUIU is a better priced option but you won’t get the longevity out of the KUIU. I’ve used several packs from all three of these companies and they all work. You can also look at EXO Mountain, Mystery Ranch and Seek Outside as they are also viable options.
Packs are personal in style and fit. Pick one of the manufacturers above that fits your needs and body shape and you really can’t go wrong.

Look into Exo also. A group of 3 of us used them in Alaska a few years ago. They worked really well and I’m very happy with them!
Kifaru for me. Caribou are not huge but with all the meat and head on the tundra it is no easy task . Hunt
I easily hauled out half of a bone in caribou with my Exo Mtn K2 2000. You don’t need a big bag if just day hunting from camp.
I just got an Exo K3 4800 for my August Alaskan Bou Hunt. Lots of good choices. But, all the favorable reviews of how comfortable they are when your packing out heavy. And how light weight they are swayed me to be an Exo man fan!-) great options to add on including a dry bag liner if you’re hunting soaking wet conditions for long periods.
Plus try to find one used? You will dang near have to pay full price for even a used K2 version. VERY sought after!
Cory summed it up well! My Kifaru 44 Mag performed well on my Mt caribou hunt last year.
For another option-Eberlestock mainframe with batwings. Not that I’ve ever hunted caribou but I’ve really liked this system for every ‘western’ hunt I’ve used it for. Also used it in AK for moose.
Back in ‘98 I used a Cabelas Alaskan Guide pack. Seemed to work just fine. Not sure if some other brands were available back then. Haha!
Backpack! I knew I forgot something.
I’ve packed out a few in my day. My Cabela’s Alaskan guide frame really did work well. My kuiu ultra 6000 did fair but in its defense it took me 4 attempts just to get the pack on my back and on my feet. My favorite for wet weather has been the eberlestock mainframe along with a drybag. Can’t beat it and nothing gets wet. The mainframe doubles as a chair anywhere you go as well because of its ridgid shelf. Simply sit down and lean back. I love that thing. Not super light but can handle tons of weight.
Demo- what a fantastic picture!
I'm a diehard exo fan. can find some deals on rokslide every now and then...
"Demo- what a fantastic picture!"
That's the SECOND best picture of that caribou... :)
Just purchased a Stone Glacier Sky 5900! Thanks guys!
I recently purchased a Kuiu 6000. Between scouting and my first hunt of the year, I've spend about 15 days with it on my back. I am very pleased with this pack. I would highly recommend it.
Look at Barney's Yukon. Its an Alaska based business.
