Lou hasn't posted here in awhile, but he certainly read Bowsite often. I just heard that he passed away yesterday. Lou was always super nice to me and we talked often, he had a no BS attitude and anyone that knew him would agree. This is sad news. Rest in Peace my friend, your family is in my prayers.

He had posted a couple not too long ago. So sad.

We got in a debate on QAD rests about 10 years ago. He said they were crap and I liked them. He sent me one that he ditched and I still have it on my bow. I will think of Lou when I look at it. Sad

Nick, I talked to him a couple months ago. He mentioned he was a little under the weather but I didn't press and thought it was from his off and on trouble with Lyme disease. We were talking about Wyoming elk draws.

Very sad news.

I remember once when he was just learning how to ise InReach. I get a message and a map link from him from northern Montana saying, "I killed an elk here!" I replied back but got no answer.

Wasn't sure if he needed help or what, and he had no cell service, and it would take me 2 days to drive there, plus find him down in what looked like a horrible, nasty canyon.

As I was sorting stuff to get ready to leave if he provided more info, he sends out another one saying, "Oops never mind that was a practice"...

I hunted Javelina in NM with Lou about 12 years ago. We set up the hunt through the Bowsite. He flew in and rented a SUV and I met him in Lordsburg. We stayed in a crappy $25 motel just across the street form the railroad tracks. The trains ran all night and actually shook the room. When I got there I found out Lou had already killed a 'leaner but he went with me on my hunt. We had a great time. We found a bunch of pigs, about 10, and I used my call and they went nuts. They were running into the bushes and back out again looking for their hurt buddy. We were laughing so hard I could hardly blow on the call.

I sit here thinking about that hunt and I feel sad.........

Crap! Just saw this!

I only knew Louis via Bowsite, emails and phone calls, but I still counted him as a friend. His elk pepperoni was always enjoyed by me and the kids. He was fun, generous and kind as well as one heck of a hunter.

My kids always enjoyed hearing his stories of pack-outs in grizzly country. My now eleven year old thinks of him as half super hunter, half daring lunatic. Me too.

He will be missed by myself and my family. The world is a lesser place, diminished in its flavor. Literally and figuratively.

Bummer.

Found this post from Cityhunter on OTCWill's elk thread in 2015. He loved those Wyoming "GRIZ" units. RIP

"Will so true ! You did the best thing by leaving the east coast to head west . I only hope i can one day get to live in the mountains !! Will i have been lucky enough to hunt sheep , and not to take away from the hunt but ,I find Elk hunting a lot more rewarding of a species to put on the ground with archery gear . If given only one species to chase it would be Rocky mountain ELK !!"

Never met him, but had about a 2 hour phone conversation with him about 5 years ago about my bison hunt. Seemed like one heck of a good guy, taken too early. Condolences to his family.

Lou seemed like such a stand up guy. We had two or three phone conversations over the years and he arranged for me to buy a cell camera from a friend at cost. His accent was hard for me to understand over the phone as I’m about half deaf, but I enjoyed our conversations. The last time I talked to him, probably about a year ago, I sensed that all was not well. He didn’t seem the same and then I read where he was selling his Iowa property. I’m sorry I didn’t call him to check on him in the meantime, but I don’t like to invade folks privacy, so I didn’t. Put that under things we should have done even if we felt uncomfortable doing it. Sad to see you go Louis, Godspeed...

Louis was one of a kind. I sided with him on a controversial Bowsite thread and he immediately PM'ed me. After a couple of days of PMs he called me and we had long and interesting discussion. Louis was very passionate and very opinionated, which suits me just fine. The world has lost one cool dude. RIP

Lou was a 'good guy' ..... none better! A true blue friend and we had many great times together here at home and by phone and e-mail. You that did know him, you were blessed because Lou was a honest sincere man and I for one will miss him everyday of my life now! ..... hard to even sleep at night right now even. ..... Lou had a plan to sell his place this year in January and move to Wyoming. Pretty sure this pandemic screwed those plans. Actually I doubt he would even been here for the accident to happen.
