Anyone hoping to pull a Maine permit today? Fingers crossed for me but hopes aren’t high...

I didn't draw. Kinda relieved since I'm booked to hunt AK moose.

I have a tag. Hope they don’t keep the 14 day quarantine.

MQQSE, for what it's worth, I was in Maine last weekend and I can't imagine all the out of state plates I saw were following the 14 day rule, we certainly weren't. Businesses were loving the patronage. I can't imagine that rule actually being enforced.

Congrats MQQSE. How many years have you been putting in?

I put in forever and a year. Ended up getting my tag through a lodge draw and going with an outfitter. I drew NH in 2000 and enjoyed it immensely. I put in to Maine I think starting in 1998.

back when the odds were good, 20 years or so ago before they turned it into a mess, the NR odds were you would draw once in 85 applications. It only got much worse with the point purchase scheme that was then introduced. If you get a tag you have to work really hard not to get a moose.

MQQSE,

What is a lodge draw?

I believe some tags get drawn earlier in the year by lodges and get offered for sale. They are expensive and I believe are some type of subsidy for sporting camp business. Not sure of all the details. I heard about one for sale and bought it several months ago. Actually my best friend and I each have one for Zone 1.

Basically auction tag type prices and have to use the guide selling them. Just glad to be hunting there this year.

I only put in for a point this year. With an elk hunt planned for next year maybe the year after I will put in for a tag. This is my Maine bull from 2019 my father pulled the tag after 16 years. He had shot a moose previously. I will let my son shoot a bull on my tag when if I do draw one.

110 convoluted NR points now. No tag for me. Would be nice if MDIFW would at minimum publish the number of cheap bonus points they peddle each year so we know the watered down odds.

A huge waste of time and money applying for a once in a lifetime tag. It's nothing but a money grab for the state of Maine. Very, very few tags go to non-residents. Keep applying and wait 20 plus years or longer to draw a tag? No thanks. If your serious about moose hunting save your Maine money and go to Newfoundland. Very good success rate and tag is included in the hunt . Moose, black bear and caribou can be hunted together.

Another donation year for me too.

I have been applying for about 20 years with no success. Decided that I really would like to shoot a moose before I die of old age so I booked a hunt for 2021 with Ryk Visser in Alberta.
