So I was on the west side of Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park about 2 weeks ago and came across a small herd of elk, around 15 of em with, cows, small bulls and a herd bull. I was surprised when they started bugling and the herd bull ran off chasing another bull into the trees. Don't have any experience with Elk but I thought that bugling and chasing was a rut thing. Seems early for this sort of activity right? Just curious. Thx

I have Farm raised elk near me and they bugle year round. I think Predation and pressure shuts them up.

I heard elk bulging in early June last year. They were on a ranch without a worry in the world.

I’ve heard elk bugling in April, June and July. They can bugle year round. Just like a turkey gobble
