I will be in this area in early September. How careful do I have to be?

Heck what are the odds of one guy getting messed with. Probably be fine. Most people are. Keep your eyes open and ears tuned.

I’m sure that’s what everyone thought who gets attacked and killed

VERY. Two friends and I hunted that area in 2018. In 17 days we saw 13 different Grizzly bears and one Black Bear. Every local we talked to had a not so great story about encounters they had. While packing my friends bull out of the Bear tooth's a hiker was mauled about 4 miles away from where we were. Fortunately we didn't have any CLOSE encounters, but who knows how many bear let us walk by........ Great hunt, just pay attention.

Yeah, be aware and cautious it only takes one encounter to go south and ruin your day!

A little bacon grease on your buddy's clothes will usually keep them off you:).
Lots of bears, but encounters can usually be avoided. Good talking to you Don!

Pyrannah - it is just as it is with everyone who gets killed by lightening. Low risk of the event happening but highly damaging if it happens to you. The magnitude of the impact does not increase the probability and the probability does not lessen the magnitude of the impact.

Thanks! Reminds me of a line from the movie "up a creek" Bear is growling at 2 guys. One guys is taking his shoes off and his friend asks why. He answers so I can run faster. First guy says you cant outrun a bear, other guys says I don't have to outrun him, just you!

If hunting with a partner, just carry a small .22 pistol. In case of bear attack, shoot your hunting partner in the knee.

Famous bear guide in Alaska when asked if the sidearm she carried on her side was to kill the bear. Her response “no, it’s for me to shoot myself before the bear eats me”
