Problem With Garmin BaseCamp

I have used Garmin GPSs for years, going all the way back to the old Garmin12. I used the old MapSource program on my PC for my work as a forester to lay out timber cruises etc. Then Garmin quit supporting MapSource. BaseCamp was then the program to use. It was pretty good. I got a new PC early this spring. I just downloaded the new version on BaseCamp. The new version comes with only a very poor base map, it doesn't even show all the state roads, and no county, or Forest Service roads. Now you have to buy maps for the handheld units and only use the maps when the handheld unit is connected to the computer. I have 2 handheld units and I will have to buy separate maps for each unit. Is there any way to get the older version of BaseCamp back on my PC?

Google Garmin base camp legacy versions. Know which one you want, lots of bad versions evidently. No chip for the gps?

No, I do not have a chip. One of my units accepts a chip the other does not. I never thought I needed a chip. The legacy version of BaseCamp had USATopo loaded. I chose the region I wanted on my handheld unit and loaded it from BaseCamp. When I needed another area I could load the new area, doing so would remove the previous area from the handheld unit. I could also load public hunting areas from several states website to the units. I might still be able to do that, Thank you WapitiBob, I hoped you would reply, I was sure you would know how to solve the problem. I will try to load a legacy version. I am somewhat techno-challenged.
