After looking at the thread about arrow weight versus trajectory, I wanted to start a survey. For those willing to do so, just list your body weight, your bow poundage, and your age. I'll start.... 220 pounds, 80#, 63 years old For some time now, I have been curious about the RATIO of body weight to bow weight. Bowhunters come in a myriad of sizes, shapes, and builds. I would like to determine the Bowsite ratio for survey participants. For example, my ratio is 2.75 (220/80). Please remember, this isn't being used for quantitative analysis or inferential statistics....don't get caught-up in trying to show the flaws of the request....it's just an informal survey.

But there are way more variables than just body weight to consider. Shoulder health, physical build, etc.. A guy who is 5'7, 195 lbs is generally a more compact, powerful specimen than my 6'3", 195 lbs (unless 30 lbs of his is beer belly).

I think unless you add scrotum weight into the equation your results are going to be meaningless.

Jaq, Of course there are more variables just body weight....and of course there will be exceptions.....as I stated, this is just a ratio of Bowsiters that choose to participate in the survey.

Deertick, Like I stated at the beginning of the survey....I was just curious what the Bowsite ratio was....nothing more. Not looking for any statistically significant finding, with a one or two variable test. However, now that population sample size (n) is greater than 30, it would be interesting to see what the correlation coefficient would be....the main question would be how to properly identify the dependent variable and independent variables.

Weight as a measurement really is missing a lot without a corresponding height.
220 lbs on someone who's 5'5" compared with someone who's 6'5" is a huge difference in how that pt is shaped.

FYI, I did some quick tabulating last night after about 80 entries were received...average body weight was 194.03, average bow poundage was 66.31, and average age was 50.69. Have about another 60 entries to enter as of tonight.... So far, average ratio was 2.94, which represents 34% of bodyweight.

I shot super heavy long bows for years and am now paying the price. I dropped down to a 55# draw this year and could not be happier. My Obsession FXL is still shooting 296fps (avg) with my 600 grain hunting set up.

Sorry typo. Shouldve been 276 not 296. 28" Easton DG 300 shafts (16gpi) with a 100 grain insert and 100 grain broadhead, puts me at 648 and shoot like laser beams for me out of the FXL. However, the do not shoot well out of my Bear Moment.

I’m about 135 and 55 yo; I shoot about #53 with a recurve and #62 with my heaviest longbow.
So that puts me at 2.18, drawing 46% of my body weight.

GF, You and Elspec have similar stats. Your body weight is 5 pounds lighter....but he draws a higher poundage than you..... resulting in a ratio that is 50% of his body weight.....within one year of each other in age, too.
