A survey...just out of curiosity....

Contributors to this thread:
After looking at the thread about arrow weight versus trajectory, I wanted to start a survey. For those willing to do so, just list your body weight, your bow poundage, and your age. I'll start.... 220 pounds, 80#, 63 years old For some time now, I have been curious about the RATIO of body weight to bow weight. Bowhunters come in a myriad of sizes, shapes, and builds. I would like to determine the Bowsite ratio for survey participants. For example, my ratio is 2.75 (220/80). Please remember, this isn't being used for quantitative analysis or inferential statistics....don't get caught-up in trying to show the flaws of the request....it's just an informal survey.
195/61/52. This is the lowest poundage I have shot since 1981.
215, 70ish 48 y/o elk and moose bow, deer and bear I shoot a 60 pounder, better for the shoulders in the cold
185/62/63 but don't you need to include height to go with weight? /72 inches
160lbs 70lb bow 40 years old
195/68/30 compound, 195/53/30 with the Satori
195/60/65, wish my age was less but ok with arrow speed at 60#!!
198/53/51 (Trad) and 198/68/51 (modern)
260, 6'3" love a bow between 75-85# 44 years old. Dam Covid gained me 20 not working for months
195/53/66 (trad), 195/58/66 compound.
But there are way more variables than just body weight to consider. Shoulder health, physical build, etc.. A guy who is 5'7, 195 lbs is generally a more compact, powerful specimen than my 6'3", 195 lbs (unless 30 lbs of his is beer belly).
220lbs/82lb draw/35 yrs old
205, 65#, 53 yrs
I can’t imagine a distinguishable distribution between these variables. Are you imagining a linear relationship? A normal distribution curve of some sort?
200 lbs 38 years old 82 lbs
182/62/53, longbow, ratio - 2.94
I think unless you add scrotum weight into the equation your results are going to be meaningless.
Jaq, Of course there are more variables just body weight....and of course there will be exceptions.....as I stated, this is just a ratio of Bowsiters that choose to participate in the survey.
Stick Slinger, Since you didn't post any numbers, it's just like your response.
Deertick, Like I stated at the beginning of the survey....I was just curious what the Bowsite ratio was....nothing more. Not looking for any statistically significant finding, with a one or two variable test. However, now that population sample size (n) is greater than 30, it would be interesting to see what the correlation coefficient would be....the main question would be how to properly identify the dependent variable and independent variables.
240/74/55 arrow 500gr shoulder and knee surgery Good luck Lewis
Nick you look great for 63
Glunt, LOL....but Nick had it right.....that's his bow poundage, not his age.
I knew it, Jake is b-curious (body weight and bow poundage).
195/71
I do see one linear variable here. Everyone is bigger than me. I mean everyone. Really?
You're the only one skinnier than me elvs -
154/52/41
Weight as a measurement really is missing a lot without a corresponding height.
220 lbs on someone who's 5'5" compared with someone who's 6'5" is a huge difference in how that pt is shaped.
420/69/13
The last one is my maturity level rather than age but you probably guessed that from the first two :)
210/60/45 in reality.
180/72 and it seems I might be the youngest at this point at 23! I feel so immature
150/70/39 Elvspec - I'm not that much bigger weight wise.
180ish/69/64.... or was it 64/69? I forget.....
250 pounds, draw 48 (recurve), 66 years old
160/55/63 recurve use to be 140/70/40 lol
182.3 this morning
66 1/2
Recurve @ 50lbs
Wheels bow @ 55lbs
Good luck, Robb
235/62# and 56. Both my shoulders are shot, one replaced the other about to be replaced. I shot 80 plus pounds for a long time. Shawn
Great to see guys age....
You know Grinder has an app now.
165lb, #60, 63 years of age
Dang! I didn't realize we had so many "lightweights" on here! ;-)
235/64/55
170-71-36
My next bow will likely be 80#
190 lbs., 70#, 64 years old
Good lord at all you old farts, no wonder y’all are grumpy all the time
30#s of beer belly, 58 years old, 65# compound, 45-50# recurves.
If stickslinger wan't to measure scrotum weight ti should be cut off and measured separately. I don't have the balls to do that for a survey.
Alot of you guys are older than I realized.
64.5 years old, 180#, 6'0" tall, both bows draw around 63# at 29".
150 lbs. / 55# (recurve) / 48 yrs. old.
225/50/57. Dont forget to multiply holding % ratio for you compound guys so 80# x .25 = 20#. Lol.
185/65/60 compound with 80% let off.
185-lbs 40#-current - recovering from 3 shoulder surgeries, normally 55# compounds 77 + age
160-60-40 compound 160-45-40 recurve
Bloodtrail, not the age of this group, but the age of hunters across the country. I did a similar survey of Bowsiters' ages a couple years ago and it tracked pretty close to national- the average age is now over 50.
195/70/53
6’2, six pack abs, chiseled arms, tight buttocks
Anything else?
IDYLLWILD and HUNT we are definitely the minority here.
Feel like if I say 36/28/36 I might find some elk hunting spots, but it's really 190/65/48yo
IDYLLWILD and HUNT we are definitely the minority here.
225 pounds 62 draw weight 69.5 years
175/68/37... middle number goes down significantly if I shoot a modern traditional bow.
175/43# longbow/73. I think you will find another correlation between bow poundage going down as age gets up there.
buci 313 rock on and keep at it!!
"225/68/55 Ed F"
220 without the beard.
My bow weight is based on arthritis, not body weight or age (57).
Elite Synergy: 202/57.
Elite Impulse 34: 202/50
155 lbs/ 62lbs/ 47 years young
Matt forgot his age, it’s 49....Lol
There see a lot of us skinny old weaklings on this site
215-55-69 Longbow Not much obesity on here.
210lbs. 57-67lbs depending on bow and style of shooting (Fingers vs Release) 52 Years Old.
Some of you guys are so old I can’t figure out which one is your draw weight and which one is your age! ;)
165lbs/55#/30yrs old. (All muscle/athletic.)
FYI, I did some quick tabulating last night after about 80 entries were received...average body weight was 194.03, average bow poundage was 66.31, and average age was 50.69. Have about another 60 entries to enter as of tonight.... So far, average ratio was 2.94, which represents 34% of bodyweight.
220. 60 recurve,65 compound. 62
Well, we now know there are about 140 Bowsite posters
We also know the average age of posters on this thread is about a year older than the average age of all hunters in the U.S. That is a little surprising because bowhunters represent a slightly younger demographic.
You're skewing the average, Lou.
Higher average age is because we're too old to go out and raise hell. We'd rather sit by our computers and complete surveys.
It would be interesting to see the standard deviation as the Bow weights are basically all about the same. Not all that much difference on body weights either excluding a couple malnourished or overfed fellers
240/70/23
I used to shoot 80 lbs in my teens, but then I’ve realized I really don’t need anything more than 70.
Last time I checked......194.10 pounds of body weight/ 65.23 pounds of bow poundage/ 52.87 years of age/ 2.98 ratio / 33.60% (bow poundage as a % of bodyweight).
"Not all that much difference on body weights either excluding a couple malnourished or overfed fellers" LOL!
145/65/27 I like to hike.
145/65/27 I like to hike.

Sooo...are you going to come up with an average weight, average poundage and average age? Looks as though there are quite a few entrants already!
Maybe a graphical representation? With age on the x axis?
Maybe a graphical representation? With age on the x axis?
Cornpone, I posted some averages earlier today...about 13 entries before your post.
175/76/25 (1964) =2.30........174/60/81 (2020)=2.90......Just an example of what might happen with old age as in my case.
Below average weight and draw weight. Age is right on the money!
Interesting, but not surprising, how the last two numbers in each response tend to invert.... as in, 66/52 often becomes something like 52/66...
Great to see so many old timers still in the game!
"Matt forgot his age, it’s 49....Lol"
You are little light there. I eclipse the 50 mark in January.
180/55/45
I shot super heavy long bows for years and am now paying the price. I dropped down to a 55# draw this year and could not be happier. My Obsession FXL is still shooting 296fps (avg) with my 600 grain hunting set up.
Wvfarrier, you’re shooting a 600gr arrow at 296 with a 55lb draw weight? Am I reading that right? Is your draw length 36”?
Sorry typo. Shouldve been 276 not 296. 28" Easton DG 300 shafts (16gpi) with a 100 grain insert and 100 grain broadhead, puts me at 648 and shoot like laser beams for me out of the FXL. However, the do not shoot well out of my Bear Moment.
I’m 47, 190 pounds, and shoot a 70 lb compound.
156 lbs,
49# draw, working back towards target of 55# by season. w/ daily practice. 75 y/o. Stroke ten year ago slowed me up, but finally getting the form back and accuracy returning .
190/60/21 I would go heavier but my bow is a 40-60lbs
190lbs 60#s & 79 in 2 1/2 months. Compound- Went from 70#s to 60#s when I turned 70. Longbow 50#s. I also shoot target rounds (90 arrows total & Field rounds 112 arrows)
225/62/56 Had one total shoulder replacement last year and have another scheduled for Early April next year. Shawn
This is interesting. I'm willing to bet the age-correlated degradation in draw weight outpaces BMI shifts.
170/62#/25 can pull more, but I'm plagued with shoulder issues from doing dumb shit in my teens.
i'm 49, weigh 157# and shoot 60#
225/60/63 compound 58 recurve Just dropped down on the compound draw lbs
Before surgery 160/60/74, After failed shoulder surgery 160/40/75
I realized I never gave my statistics. 6"5" before back surgeries and hip surgery . Shorter now. 230 # 65lb draw weight. 66 years old.
170/65/33, bald and sexy as all get out.
Jake, I need to hear more about "inferential statistics." Nevermind, that'll be as productive as reading Hemingway to a dog.
196/49/64 The draw weight is a bit of an outlier because it reflects an accommodation for a labral tear.
205/50-60/74, both stick and compound
265..#67..59....6'6" and 60 in Dec
225lbs 45# trad 63# compound 54 y/o
“ I do see one linear variable here. Everyone is bigger than me. I mean everyone. Really?”
Not me, dude!
I’m about 135 and 55 yo; I shoot about #53 with a recurve and #62 with my heaviest longbow.
So that puts me at 2.18, drawing 46% of my body weight.
GF, You and Elspec have similar stats. Your body weight is 5 pounds lighter....but he draws a higher poundage than you..... resulting in a ratio that is 50% of his body weight.....within one year of each other in age, too.
