What dates would be your preference to bowhunt antelope? WY Red Desert unit.
We had planned on going out in Aug, but like many things in the world, covid might be screwing that plan. Might be Sept 15 before we can get there. I've never hunted antelope during rut time. For those that have would Sept still be a good option with decoying and still have the option of sitting water vs Aug and just sitting water?
Thanks

August 15th then it doesn't interfere with mule deer and elk. I've hunted later in September but here in WY the weather can change quickly. Decoying is fun, but you don't get a lot of time to range and shoot. Also stalking is another option. It's fast and furious!

If you're not hunting elk, Sept 15 or a little later. Antelope rut is a blast and the weather is cooler.

Lots of units have a Sept 15th opener for rifle, something to consider if you plan on bowhunting public land.

If you are hunting a red desert area, pressure should he minimal either way. If you go sept 15, set up on water and have a decoy as another strategy. If the rifle season is open, as said above, beware...

Some Red Desert areas open as early as Sept 12 for firearms.

Go early. Stay late. Enjoy the ride!

What I've done is set up a lifesize doe decoy within sight of a waterhole, 100-150 yards works. No need to hide the blind, a little uphill from the water seems best.
