I am a nonresident with enough preference points to probably draw either of these units next year for archery elk. I have not been to these areas , but I have been looking at the CDWP website statistics and trying to find any other information I can about them. I am looking for ANY suggestions or information on these units. I have hunted Colorado OTC five seasons with a bow and have been able to kill two four point bulls and a cow. I would like to utilize my points in area where I can spend a couple weeks hunting with a decent chance at another bull. I will probably be hunting by myself ,but have done some research on semi-guided or guided hunts as well. I am thinking about driving from Missouri to one of these units in the next few weeks to spend two or three days checking out the road system/ access points and getting a feel for the area. Any suggestions, help, or information would be greatly appreciated. Bowsite and it’s members have been a great resource to me for many years. Feel free to P.M. me . Thanks

I want to take a moment to thank the guys that sent me a personal message on this topic. I really appreciate the tips and advice. Bowsite has a great group of like minded folks. Thanks, Clint.

My nephew also looking at those two units. From what i heard 66 is pretty steep country . Think odds of success are similar, haven't checked for awhile. Seems like their is better opportunity for bigger bulls in 49. Nice thing about 49 is i can do a lot of scouting coming from Denver.

They are both in the top 4 units for high elevation, iirc. Scouted 49 last month, have spent time in 66 as a tourist. Be in Shape. Lot of Soccer Moms in 49 due to its proximity to Denver, I suppose.

CB how many points do you have? I don’t know much about either unit but will hopefully draw 49 next year with my brother. We could potentially share a camp or at least offer some help packing.
