Well we just returned from our annual Florida alligator hunt. We filled all 8 tags with solid gators. Shot over 100 armored catfish and caught some decent bass.

do they eat those kind of catfish? Did you get any shots at iguanas along the canals?

Didn't see any iquanas. Did shoot some Giant Tilapia and Mullet. They say you can eat the Plecos, but we didn't give it a try. We definitely will next time.

you are the gator-master with no second place finisher in sight.

Ha ha Grant! That's only because I'm probably the only one hunting them with longbows and recurves without a bang stick. :)

Great looking gators. Would love to hear more about your gear. What poundage of bows, type of arrows and points. How do you finish them without a bang stick?

Bentstick54, on this trip the bow weights ranges from 50# to 63#. However, we took a 10 yr old boy one year and he shot his with a 38# longbow. We use heavy fish arrows with detachable Muzzy Gator Getter heads. We finish most of them by simply grabbing them, taping their mouth shut and pithing them with a knife. On the really big gators we use a broadhead through the lungs. FL law requires all arrows be attached to a line and thus we shoot them with an arrow that has 100# PowerPro braid on it and a float.

Thanks, I am a trad shooter and keep thinking of a gator hunt. 50# is my normal weight but wasn’t sure if that would be enough for gator. Everything I’ve seen has always been with compounds, and wouldn’t want to show up “underbowed “.

Gator, good eatin' right there. I recently swapped moose steak for gator, pound for pound. One of the better trades I made.
