Every year for the last 10 year or so I have drawn a easy to get CO pronghorn unit. This year I was one of about 3 people that did not draw. So I was left hunting OTC units. Luckily a friend of friend owns a big ranch with some antelope. I spent about 4 days in a blind. Couple of those days it was 100 degrees. I had a few close calls but no cigar.

Sunday I spent most of day trying to spot and stock/decoy on some of the flattest ground in CO. The last couple of hours of the day I sat over a water hole in a old shed that is about 25 yards to near side of a tank. After not too long a great buck and 6 does come in to drink. Well I flat missed him at 30 yards.

I was sick no doubt the best buck I have ever had in range by a long shot. So today I leave work about 3:30 stop at bank and back to tank around 4:30. Less than a hour later he shows up with about a dozen girlfriends across the county road. In no time they cross the road and are at the tank - at 30 yards again! This time I made it count on a awesome goat.

Yep that’s a good one. Congrats JohnMC!

No clue on scoring goats, but looks like a really good one! Lots of mass. Congrats, John!

You need to work on your “smiling” skills, though....Maybe you could get some tips on that from Treeman ;-)

That goat has mass for days!

Congrats, John!

Great buck. Wow, those second chances on big animals just never happen... you're so lucky. Grats.

Congratulations on a great buck. With all the mass I'd guess 82+. I shot a 15 inch buck in Arizona that grossed over 89. Mass adds up & helps prong length.

Great buck! Congratulations, John!

Antelope always mess with me guessing score. I get side tracked by tall and wide because it looks better to me when all the score is in mass and prongs.

That buck definitely has mass and prongs! I’d guess 77-80”.

I’d call that perseverance more than luck, and 100* in a blind is plain damn stubborn ! :-)

Like T-roy, I’m not good at scoring goats, but with that mass and the length of curl, he’s gonna be pretty nice. Congrats, the most fun I’ve ever had was bowhunting pronghorn.

17-Sep-20
how long are the horns? good mass, but average length?

Dry creek I owe most of my hunting success to me being stubborn.

Wilderness this what I came up with for measurements but won’t swear it correct.

17-Sep-20
Looks great! A lot of mass will make it look shorter. That’s a P&Y Booner for sure!!

Bet you are glad you didn’t draw that tag this year and ended up with an OTC Giant

Got him scored tonight. Thanks to Dennis aka tradi-Doerr for scoring. Officially my first Booner. 86 4/8 gross 84 2/8 net not bad for Colorado goat!

Congrats on your first Booner, John! Very cool! Definitely need to post up a pic of the mount, when finished. (assuming you’re getting it mounted)

If THAT doesn’t put a smile on your face, nothing will! ;-)

Dennis it was fun. Hopefully I won't have to wait 44 more years to kill another Booner! What did the other one you have that evening score?
