In my opinion you should pay the outfitter with check or credit card. Your guide should be paid from that . If a guy or gal works their heart out for you then you should give them enough cash to show your appreciation. That is just my perspective.

You guys don’t know crap.
Here’s how it works:
Look at the guy’s equipment. If he’s the type to shoot one of those Garmin sight with the integrated laser, then (well, DUHHH) bitcoin or VenMo should do. If he’s into mechanicals, then probably pay-pal, but only on Friends & Family.
Compound shooter with fixed blades, you’re probably safe with cash. Most Stickbow shooters are going to be happy with gold dust or nuggets, unless the guy is into self-bows and flint points, in which case definitely beaver pelts out West or Wampum in the Northeast. Pacific Northwest, you can just throw a potlach.

Whatever you do, don't give your guide your knife as a tip. Guides have their own favorite knife. One guy (a watermelon farmer) tipped us with a watermelon once after killing a big bull. A caribou guide in Quebec was thrilled to be left an 8 wt fly rod because his broke and he was a loooong way from a fly shop. One really super lake trout guide I know in Utah preferred pot as a tip because it was so hard to get where he lived.
But yeah, when in doubt, cash.
