Not sure how many points it takes but you should be close for 40. Good area if going guided.

With 17 points and looking for an outfitter I'd be checking out 40 too. Lots of private ground with good bulls. I was one point from drawing 40 probably 4-5 years ago. Now I do believe I'm a solid 3 points behind.

Yep, Unit 40 would be my choice if I was going outfitted and had your points.

Any recommendations for outfitters in either 76 or 40? I have enough points for either unit (20 points) appreciate any recommendations

Without a doubt with those points and willing to hire an outfitter Unit 40.

Trophy Class Outfitters- Mike Lawson or 2V Ranch

Both probably are booked out a bit but I'd call and get a deposit in.

Hunted next to 2V and it sounded like an elk zoo during bow season.

2V ranch gets $15k for an elk hunt. A bit pricey. Other suggestions for guides in 40 or unit 76?

15k for a hunt?!!! Does that include a landowner tag? Use your points, scout all summer, have a great hunt and hopefully kill a bull you’re proud of. At least that’s how I would do it since you didn’t ask! Lol

How much is Trophy Class? Probably cheaper.

Or you could go to 76 and shoot a 280" 6x for 5K with an outfitter? It's all relative and depends on what you want in a hunt and to have the realistic possibility of shooting. 18 years is a lot of time.

18 years you’d think you’ve had a plan by now

I think that for $15k, hookers and cocaine are included.

Hank you’re south of Grand Junction so probably Meth and no hookers at least none that have teeth.

I went to school north of Grand Junction in Strangely. The broads there had teeth, would bite and smelled like angus beef. Burn your points, I burned a bunch in top tierish unit and have had better hunts in units I could have hunted numerous times with the points it took to hunt the "good" unit that took 17 pts.

2V is RFW only. Your options in 40 are pretty much Mike Lawson or Biggerstaff. Trophy Class has one of the most outdated websites I have ever seen. Biggerstaff hasn’t updated his in years either.

Crazy that 17 pts would be in play for 49... what’s your budget.. pm me...

For a 1st rifle or muzzy hunt in 49 it’s been at double digits Points for awhile

40 has the best trophy quality out of those options. Outfitted will get you into the best areas that DIY can’t access.

There was a guy on Bowsite who killed a whopper in 40 who had paid for landowner access with a nice house to stay in. I think it was Cajun Bowhunter or something like that. He doesn’t post much. I looked into it pretty hard but decided to go DIY in 2.

I just hunted 76 this year with Frazier Outfitters and had a great High country horseback hunt. Took a nice bull on day 6. No shortage of animals. Well run operation.

11,800 ft Day 6. Chased a much larger herd bull (340ish) but could never quite close the gap. Was more than happy with this bull.
