Gotta love when they stop and question .. just because your walking to your location .. I had two town clowns drive right into the back field of the property I hunt .. I’ve been there for 6 yrs now always park same place same truck .. but they feel they should drive in and then have the balls to ask if they could get a permit also ... I had some choice words

Nothing so far. First time out in two years. Trying to soak in all of the changes the storms have caused. My stand location was 15 yrds off of a trail. Looks like the blowdowns caused the trail to shift almost directly under me.

Someone called the SP about a pedestrian on the parkway I don’t fault them they were just doing their job. But they were telling me that I should walk in the woods to my stand. Since you are not supposed to park on the parkway that would mean a two mile walk through the woods in the dark with no clear trail. I would have to start at 2:00 am to navigate that

Damn. Just spooked a doe. She must have seen me move. Well at least I saw one

She was behind this blowdown. I saw her ears. She must have seen me grab the bow. I would guess she was 15-18 yrds away

Ok so hit was back and got the stomach so I had to hurry to get to gutted and to the butcher. I moved to stand 2 and got in the tree around noon. About 12:15 I see movement on the other side of the river. It is a big deer and then I see the horns. The deer starts angling to a low spot on the bank. I initially thought he was going to get a drink, but he starts wading the river right towards me. Got the bow ready and he start walking along the bank. 15 yard shot, but he was walking so it was a bit back. He ran about 30 yards, stopped and then walked away. Could not find arrow and it took a while to get blood. Finally decided it would be best to wait due me thinking it was a liver hit. In the Quinnipiac state park there are three ways in or out. Thru the woods, along the parkway or via canoe. Don’t have a canoe and through the woods was not an option so I went out to the parkway. While walking out I kept looking into the woods. All of a sudden I see a brown and white lump. Took out the binoculars and sure enough it was him. Took out the liver but it got the stomach too. Total travel was 80 to 100 yards

Have to say those Ramcat broadheads punch quite a hole. I should have taken pic of the hole in the liver but I was rushing to get the buck out

I am amazed that he “walked“ away with the arrow dangling like that!
Nice deer, public land, 15 yard shot… I can’t think of anything that sounds much better for hunting around here. I’m curious, though… Did you drag him out along the highway? You said the other way is 2 miles through the woods and that sounds beastly. But I’m not sure that dragging a deer along the shoulder of a heavily traveled road like that would be any picnic either!
