Anyone shot the new Mathews Atlas, or seen any evaluations of it? Looks like it’s 34” ata and 7.75 brace height. I’m and advocate of longer ata and longer brace height.

Yeah and a 310 ibo and a price tag that’s up there with carbon bows. Is it being marketed as a target bow?

No it’s being marketed as a hunting bow. Think the sticker is $1350 or so, bare bow.

The draw length is for big people. Otherwise i would consider it.

I’m 6’2”, 30” draw. Thinking it might be a fit.

Almost 5lbs. No thanks

Mathews hasn't been one of the top bow companies for years by being stupid, but the percentage of people that have even a 33" draw is minimal. It seems they fixed a problem that statistically doesn't really exist.

Or they designed a bow that works great for “normal” draw length people, but can be adjusted to 34” DL. That makes much more sense than designing a bow that has a DW range of 32”-34”.

There are not 2 hunters in 20,000 with a 33” draw

I'm 6'1.5 but i like a draw around 28.5 to 29 depending on the bow. I shoot an ovation at 28.5 if I remember correctly. They seem to run long on there draw. If this bow had a normal draw range i would definitely consider it. Just stupid to me to alienate most archers.

Bou’bound, I expect you are correct. That’s the reason to not build a 33” or 34” draw bow, but rather build a bow that has “normal” DL but can be made to increase the DL for the very few that have an extra long DL.

Don't know why they couldn't offer two cam options. I'd order this bow right now if you could get it in a standard d.l. configuration.

The TRX 34 is just about perfect except for the $1600.00 price tag.

The problem is Dale when you design a bow that extends out to 34" performance will suck with draws in the normal range. It will be a 300fps IBO bow at 30" in reality. 310 max.

Thanks, Bowfreak. I’m gonna go look at one. My local shop has one they’re letting people try. I’ll ask them if they’ll chronological it with my arrows. Reason for my interest is, I bought a new bow, 14 months ago. It’s 33”, ata, 6.5” brace height. Great bow, but I have not shot it was well as I want to shoot. But, maybe, it’s the shooter.

I shot the Atlas and the V3, both set at 30”/64 pounds. I did not like the V3. Seemed harsh and hard to pull. Liked the Atlas.

I'm sure it will be super accurate it just won't have much speed. Which means little to nothing.

Bowfreak: “Mathews hasn't been one of the top bow companies for years by being stupid.”

How do you quantify this statement? Sales? Profit margins? Or is this just your opinion?

By any measure you want stringgunner. There is no denying they are one of the top manufacturers. To say otherwise is silly.

Agreed. Was just curious.

Bowfreak, Agree, speed might suffer some. I got over light arrows and blistering speed years ago. Killed lots of stuff with 200-240 FPS bows, back in the day.

I just ordered my Mathews Atlas, thought I would weigh in on this thread as I shot it with my 460grain arrows and chronographed it.

I have a 31" draw length and shot it with the 70lb switchweight mods maxed out, I clocked 290fps with this setup. Then i dropped to 60lbs and shot my arrows and clocked 260fps, this makes sense given max weight with the 70lb mods is more like 75lbs... You do lose some speed since it has an almost 8" brace height and large ATA, however at my 31" DL, the draw cycle was incredibly smooth as the cams did not have to turn over as much as when i shot the VXR 31.5 at 31" DL and the string angle felt perfect. With the VXR there was a steep valley as it came into the backwall, that i didn't get with the Atlas. I did not shoot the V3 as it does not go to 31"DL but I can assume it would have been similar to the VXR. Also I won't pretend to be some macho man, with the Atlas I could draw the bow back maxed on the 70lb mods (more like 75lbs DW) a few times, and couldn't budge the VXR at max weight with the 70lb mods, which to me was a big deal as the Atlas seems like a more comfort shootable bow. If i can get 275fps out of a bow with 460gr arrow i will be sitting pretty in my opinion, and if i can get to 65-70lbs on the atlas this will be do-able. Hope this helped.

Any other fellow knuckle dragger, try one? I tried one yesterday, it is the first bow that I have been able to pull back over 60lbs since my third shoulder surgery . The bow was actually 67 lbs. I liked the string angle, the bow reminded me of my old q2xl.
