Target Buck is DEAD and Scored! 210 3/8!
Whitetail Deer

A couple of months ago I made a post about our two target Ohio bucks. Many of you guessed the score and have kept in touch privately so I thought I would make a post to provide an update. Let me begin by saying that it didn't end the way we originally hoped....which was to kill him with a bow. So we just ended the Ohio 7 day gun season and here is a disclaimer....if a shotgun slug kill makes you angry or aren't interested, please stop reading now! If you want to see a BIG Ohio whitetail...read on.
We knew he was around last year but this year he decided to make his full time home on our small parcel of just under 100 acres. We only have 6 acres of food plot, but where it's located, the bucks just love it. Here he is early in the season on trail cam. To say that we were excitedly is an understatement.
We had him on camera many times and had him patterned and believed that our best chance was in the early season which began the last saturday in September.

Here is a trail cam video of him early on......

Terrific buck. Absolutely love to see big whitetails, and there is no shame in killing him legally, whatever was used. Congratulations sir!
I have owned this acreage for 17 years and we have only taken a handful of bucks over the years and always let younger class bucks walk. Just a few years ago we had a good crop of bucks and right about then EHD came through and we had to start all over again. It was disappointing for sure. The parcel is a total of 97 acres, but positioned perfectly between 2 large parcels who do very little to no hunting and do not allow outsiders on their land. Our little piece is right in the middle of about 1000 acres of prime Ohio fringe and swampy creek bottom.
Within the first week of archery season my son and I both had him in our sights, but the situation was not quite right. My chance was at 42 yards broadside but right at the end of legal shooting time and his vitals were not crystal clear so I passed believing that I would get a better chance. No way I was going to wound this buck. My son had him in sight twice but not in range. One evening he had the #2 buck at 12 yards, a 180 class older buck, and let him go because this giant was about 50 yards out and he thought he would come in. Sadly, regardless of the hours we invested, we never had another chance and as the rut came on....we had him on camera less and less. The #2 buck has never shown up again after being there regularly for a couple months.
Sadly, my time hunting had to be cut short as both of my elderly parents contracted covid. Both mid 80s, but fully independent, active and with no underlying conditions. My mother was able to finally get well, but I had to call an ambulance for my father and sadly he did not survive and he died in the hospital, alone. I still cant get my mind around that. We couldn't even be with my mom the night I had to call her to tell her that my dad had passed because she was sick and positive for Covid. It was one of my worst days ever.
That is a great buck. It has rained so much here I didn't do a lot of early hunting. I only go when it gets cooler. Our shotgun season is on but I don't often use a shotgun. Yesterday I killed a deer, no monster, but I killed it with a 50 cal single shot muzzle loading pistol. Not ashamed of it at all. Now I will do some bow hunting. You won't believe the recoil of a pistol with 100 grains of powder and a 300 grain bullet.
On that first video looks like some kind of freak deer also. What county Steve? Can’t wait to see the kill photo.

I was out helping my mom take care of some important legal matters regarding my dad's passing, but when I got the call went to share in the photos. My son and my grandson carried on and went together on this past wednesday after a few inches of snow. It was the middle of gun season here in Ohio. This was the results of their efforts!
How about those brows??? !!!

To say he was happy was an understatement! On our small property, with the right neighbors, good solid management, and smart doe harvest and putting in the time, it all came together. The buck of a lifetime to say the least! We dont believe this is an old buck....probably just 4.5, but there was no way to pass him up considering all of the possibilities. Thank God for an amazing harvest during a really bad time for our family! This is me, my son and grandson. 3 generations. Score sheet next.
Scored green of course, by a certified scorer...of course unofficial until after it dries 60 days. Not sure how many inches it will lose.
Wowzers. Great buck, love the pictures too! Is that 3 generations?
210 3/8 Who cares about net.....I think a buck should get credit for every inch on its head.

Heck of a way to end a rough year! Congrats on a truly world class deer from your own ground!
Condolences to your family on losing your dad....
Steve, Sorry for your loss, my mother went this year as well and we couldn’t get across the Atlantic to go to her funeral. My brother and father were near the hospital, but not allowed in. A nurse stayed after her shift for three hours to be with my mom at the end and I am forever grateful to her. Here at the hospital where I work I have held a lot of hands for family this year, and it’s nice that NHS policy has changed to allow two family members in. I would be willing to bet that someone was with your dad at the end, we owe this to each other as human beings. As a PA I see all my staff doing this on their own because we all believe that we would want our patients treated like our own family and, we are willing to be there for those that can’t. These are hard times for providers as well because we question the policy of restricting family members. I hope you rest easier knowing that someone was there to help when needed. Best wishes and I’m glad that fantastic buck helped your year. John
Great buck & great story.
So sorry for your loss & the awful circumstances your family had to endure.
Godspeed to your father.
Sorry for the loss of your dad.... Excellent story of that deer and congrats on the awesome buck!!
