I posted this on the state forum as well, just not sure how much traffic that site gets..
Anyway, i am looking at maybe hunting 270 this coming year. I have in the past and was able to get a tag with zero points and while i was there, grizz were of no concern.
Has anything changed in the past few years? I would REALLY prefer to not have the challenge of dealing with grizz, i have a hard enough time looking for elk...
PMs are always welcome..
Nothing has changed. If you keep poking around online I’m sure you’ll come across the story of the ONE griz that was seen south of there in the Bighole. But nothing to the north, east or even west in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness. I know lots of people who hunt and outfit there and not even a track has been seen anywhere in 270. Business as usual. Good luck!
Get a full suit of KUIU for added peace of mind and you will be. Good to go.
See “Kuiu saves hunter in grizzly attack , thread
An added layer of HECS and you will be safer in Grizz country than sitting on the couch in your castle.
Is the Elk population about the same too?
I believe you can run into a griz in most of western Montana now days. While it is unlikely there is a chance. Be prepared . Elk population is doing good ! Best of luck . Hunt
Hunt! Haven’t seen you post in long time, thanks for chiming in..
Hunt... you could also hit the Powerball and get struck by lightning on the same day right. Anything is possible. Lol
I have had 2 run ins in the last 5 years in western Montana and eastern Idaho. Bears are spreading out . Heck they trapped one on the golf course by my house 3 years ago. But I agree chances are slim just be prepared . Hunt
I appreciate knowing there chance is not 0. Lol
Montana Grizz,, its a pretty fair football team
