Plan B if the border doesn't open
Was thinking about my plan B if the border doesn't get reopened for my late May Ontario bear hunt. I have a spot in ID that I have frequently seen bears on past elk hunts. Strongly thinking about going there for a DIY spring hunt but wanted some opinions on dates. General area is in the Dubois ID area (not WY) and I plan to do baiting. If you were going to take a week to do this (I know low odds) which week would you go? Season runs 4/15-6/15. Would probably need to be a little later to make sure I can't get into Ontario as that is my first choice (Ontario hunt is last week of May).
Tell Canada ???? your a refugee
My backup plan is Nick's ABA Goat Hunt Raffle for $100.
Unfortunately I think the border opening this spring is a long shot. I have an annual pike trip in late May. I think it won’t happen for the second consecutive year.
Why not book an AK black bear hunt that you know you’ll be allowed to go to?
What do they run money wise on average ?
Yup, I'm with Dale - 1st time in many years not able to do our Ontario walleye trip and looks like it'll be 2 years in a row - sucks big time, I REALLY miss that trip. **Plan B - try Lake of the woods again - didn't do worth a darn there last year.
Hopeful that my October, Sask goose hunt will be open this year. Plan B - line up a second elk hunt (that is about as good of a plan B as there is - LOL)
We usually get our baits in Idaho set middle to late May depending on snow level. usually not accessible any earlier. We only bait for a few weeks then start hunting after that. Sometimes we don't have bears within a week. 1 week would be tough but if you are in the right spot, it could work. Feel free to shoot me a pm, sounds like you may be able to get into your spot sooner. Hope they let you guys through the border either way.
I like the more DIY aspect as opposed to any guided hunts. That is reason I like my Ontario spot. We get to do all our own baiting and stand placement.
Things are not looking good for Alaska as Canada has again withheld cruise ships which means Alaska will for a second year have none again.
I feel your pain! My family owns property in Ontario and pay taxes on it and we still can't go enjoy it. Last year was the 1st year in 40 I wasn't there. I have my feelings about that but will keep them to myself.
I'm thinking texas axis deer instead,
Thinking Texas myself easy drive target rich environment :)
I know an outfitter near Garden Valley for bears.Anyone know a good axis or black buck place?I know the Baker 3 has a archery only Blackbuck hunt.

How are Canadian property owners able to go to their places in Florida? Flying??
Canadians are permitted to leave, and if you’re traveling across for a job or moving you may be able to cross.

Awe shucks, not another summer where we can enjoy Alaska without a ton of tourists.
Yep i booked a Ranch in texas April 12 17 if anyone wants to go
No one for Colorado OTC elk?
Wolves would have ate them all by than ;)
I have been travelling to and across the US coming on 20 years in the spring for turkey and the fall for big game. And to visit many long time friends. Now looks like I'll miss two years in a row . I've had many injuries and even cancer but nothing has stopped me from going until now. Just hoping they can get this under control by spring 2022 !! On the bright side I at least I'm building some points for 2 years lol
