Do you think that these bulls will qualify for Pope and Young this year when they grow their new antlers ? These photos were taken a few days ago in a rich antler growth area.

260 in P & Y min. looks like they already surpass sometime ago .,.
the back ones mature body size indicates he will be putting much more into horn growth than in years past. good moisture resulting in good feed this year and he could bloom into a giant.... as you refer to the genetics are there.

Really tough to see their tops to know.

I’d say the back one will. The front one is tough. You can sort of see the left antler and it looks like a bull with decent 5ths, but short main beams. Anyways, he should go over if he has two of those.

Pretty easy for a 6 pt to make the minimum. I would say tje back one is there already and the front should make it in a normal growth year.

Only if you kill one and actually go through the process of entering it... good luck

This one just over the 260 min. Not that big.
This min. was established years ago, its a different age , what with game management what it is , 300 would be more notable bench mark., don't even start with low entry level of pronghorn.

Thanks for the input guys. I think Idyll is right about where I was thinking they are now and both should be easily over come September. These buggers always seem bigger to me on the hoof and smaller when walked up on. Huntcell, I like your mounts and agree with your comment regarding pronghorn.........Badbull

I’m pretty sure some folks have a different tape measure than I do... most 300 bulls you hear of are in the 240-250 range. But going back to your pic, I don’t believe the bottom bull would meet the min, but yes the top would.

Im not the best source for field judging elk but I’d wager one already makes it and both would next year

With a normal moisture year, both should increase in size. both have good genetics except for width. I would have no problem trying for either one.

I have no idea, not an “inches” hunter. I’d arrow either one without hesitation.

I think the P&Y min for elk is too low. Not hard to make book at all.

I think most, if not all P&Y mins should be revisited

Speaking of P and Y mins being revisited, l kind of think mule deer might be a bit on the high side with respect to some of the other animals.

Yes. They're sure enough at the bottom of the cycle though! Wouldn't have taken much more winter to put them in a bind.
