Where bird fell!!
Yesterday was opening day of Kansas youth season. Eli has several turkeys under his belt using his crossbow, but after killing his buck with his bow this year, he was committed to get his first tom with a bow. His goal was to get a head shot. We had originally planned to hit the woods opening morning but my work schedule would not allow. Fortunately Wednesday evening I got home in time and we headed out to our family farm. We were a little late getting in so had to work around birds already in field, and decide to sit up between birds and their roost. Turned out to be a good decision, after following so many threads on here I decided to bite the built and bought a pair of DSD decoys. Turned out to be a good decision. We were in blind about forty five minutes catching up about track, school, etc... Had been calling every fifteen minutes or so with no response, when out of nowhere a tom walks in front of us about 50 yards out. The angle he came could not see decoys real well, I called softly and worked his way around us. As soon as he got in line of sight of jake he came on string. We had decoys set up about 10 yards from blind. Bird had no idea he was so focused on the jake. Bird may have caught a little movement on draw and hoped of jakes back, one soft cluck and he was back on decoy. Eli took his time and made great head shot bird went over immediately. His reaction was priceless. In hindsight I should have video on my phone, but I get wrapped up in watching him do his thing. Regardless of video this memory will never go away. Good luck to all getting ready to start their seasons.

I honestly don't know if I will sit in a treestand or blind alone again. Can't explain what feeling is like to see your kids succeed at something you love doing with them so much!!

Awesome. I had no Idea how KS had the youth hunts set up. We were there last week fishing in Kirwin. We left to come home the day it opened for the youth hunt. Next year we are considering making the fishing trip a scouting and turkey trip for my son. I was bummed to learn the turkey season opened the day we were leaving.
