Is it to early to ask, who’s going? I signed up a couple weeks ago. Heard that they might be canceling the 3D shoot. Should be a great time no matter.
Was really looking forward to this one but can't make the new dates. :-(
I’m still undecided. Tight schedule in July for me too.
—Jim
does reno have the same policy as Las Vegas? " what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas???
oh! asking for a friend.
Rick and I are going. I’m curious to see where my black bear ended up after panel scoring.
As a sponsor, we really wanted to attend but we’ll be in Africa working. We do have a hunt or two on auction there so if you’re going, check them out.
As long as the border is open, I plan on being there in the outfitter section.
Had planned on making this my first one but when it was moved from April to July I already had other commitments.
Was really looking forward to going with three of my friends and our wives, but when it was moved to July, my wife and I will be in South Africa. That trip was pushed back from last year due to the pandemic.
I wouldn't miss it... Ed F
I hope to go but not sure yet. I have a couple elk there & at least have to go pick them up on Sunday.
Was really looking forward to going this spring, but unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to make the July date work.
Wife and I will be there. Looking forward to it.
I’m booked. Might need to check if I got a hotel room though...
Looking forward to it!
Got that done. Now need to figure out driving or flying...
Any word on any Bowsite meet and greet night?
Good luck, Robb
Reno has to be the worst place possible to hold the event. It is a nightmare to get there from the East Coast. It takes a full day of travel each day to get there. I likely won’t go just because of the location.
It's a beautiful location with a lot of nearby amenities. Wives don't want to go to the midwest. They want to go to Phoenix and Reno.
Eric I was there this spring for panel measuring. Connecting flights and layover was 8 hours flying from NJ... Far from a full day.
I live in Reno, use to travel a ton for business and I can validate it’s a bitch to get to some cities on the east coast. That said there are some tricks I’ve learned regarding connections that won’t show up on 95% of the travel sites.
Glad I’m taking the camper.
I am going....a simple 2 hour drive over the Sierras for me...FYI: You will have Scheels, Cabelas and Sportsman's Warehouse all close by the Reno-Sparks area !!
Joe
I am going , just bought a house outside of reno
Scheels is minutes away from where P&Y is being held. Sportsman’s and Cabelas aren’t worthy of visiting anymore IMO...
If you don’t rent a car and spend an afternoon at Lake Tahoe you’re missing out. Better yet would be a Bowsite meet and greet on the patio of Garwoods with several pitchers of Wet Woodies and burgers or alternatively a bunch of orders of fried zucchini, burgers and beers on the patio at Sunnsyside.
I’ll definitely be passing on this one. The wife and I spent two weeks there last fall for hunts in Southern Oregon. Reno is fast becoming a sanctuary city with homeless everywhere. Converting to a blue state. They were sleeping in any shady spots off the public walks around our Peppermill Resort much less the once grand Truckee River Walk. Don’t know what hotel they picked, but you best stay on the grounds.
Damn, Tilzbow, gonna talk me into going! Dang!
Reno's an awesome town, don't let Zim discourage you guys too much. I visit there multiple times per year most years for work and I've only been almost shot once. There's a Sierra Trading Post in Reno, great opportunity to get some good gear very cheap in addition to the others mentioned above. They have REI as well. Did I also mention that there is an In-n-Out Burger right across the street from the hotel? Animal style! :)
Not discouraging anyone, just stating facts. It’s not like this is a big secret. You can Google many articles snd comments about folks who returned recently and were shocked to see the change. We stayed inside the Peppermill compound for the most part are had a good time. Stopped at Truckee River Walk but departed promptly! ~70% homeless there. The old downtown.......I refused to let my wife get out of our truck. Narrowly missed a drug/drunk who stumbled in front of my vehicle at full speed. Yikes. We did not go to Sparks. Maybe that is OK?
Visit any big city out west... homeless is part of the forgotten enabled culture... unfortunately. I bought my tickets, deciding on whether to sleep with the homeless or get a hotel. Ed F
Reno is awsome for the sportsman , I bought a house in Spanish springs about 20 minutes out and it is beautiful there , Reno is good to go see plays and concerts plus every month before COVID hit , they have something on the weekend there like chili cookouts , hot August’s nights , My boys grew up in Huntington Beach ca and now they live up there and said they will never be back ,
Downtown and the casinos lost their appeal to me years ago and that had nothing to do with the homeless. I can’t imagine spending a few days inside a casino resort. Since I no longer frequent downtown or the casinos I can’t comment on the state of that area at night but BOWUNTER’s post is spot on and Reno isn’t even in the top 25 cities in the US as far as homelessness and it’s outside of the top 100 for crime.
As far as Sparks, where the convention is located, it’s an okay little area and I’d recommend Great Basin Brewery and BJ’s Barbecue, both of which are within walking distance of The Nugget. There’s also an outdoor music venue that might have a show scheduled at the same time as the convention.
As previously mentioned, Lake Tahoe is a short drive away has spectacular views and patio dining and Squaw Valley is another worthy day trip. Then there are unlimited day hikes in the Sierras both around Lake Tahoe and Lakes Basin near the little town of Sierra City.
Drive east of Sparks a few minutes and you should be able to find the Desert Bighorn Sheep that roam the desert hills south of I80.
The Midtown area between downtown Reno and The Peppermill has several excellent restaurants and bars. Then there’s the breweries and distilleries including The Depot and Record Street Brewing along with a host of others throughout the area. Add in the uniqueness of NV’s Basque dining and the Picon punch served along with several really good local Mexican restaurants and there’s plenty to choose from of you’re willing to step out of the casino resort.
If anyone is looking for specific recommendations feel free to drop me a PM.
Tilz, +1 on the Basque dining. I'm a huge fan of Louis! What a fun experience and the food is great, I wouldn't miss it!
The Depot for sure, where we had the ChukarChasers Dinner a couple years ago...Well worth it!
Ed......if your motel room is close to Zack’s, I’d go with your first choice.....
I will take that risk... last convention I got flashed by two chicks in the elevator... I suspect this convention will top that. Ed F
Ed,
After getting flashed by two chicks in the elevator- what did you do? They were probably just doing an icebreaker. Were you speechless?
We need more information on this incident. This matter may require that the Bowsite Ethics Committee conduct an investigation !!
Zim you probably should stay away from Denver too as they have a lot of homeless there and the mayor just welcomes it.
If I didn’t have plans already Reno/Sparks sounds like a great venue.
After Ed got done clutching his chest in surprise, he was unable to run the ladies down. :)
Good thing he wasn’t trying to clutch their chests!
Booze and boobs? Guessing I'll be there;)
When I go to the Sheep Show, normal years in early winter, I like to stay in an Airbnb along Lake Tahoe and then drive up and over into Reno.
I've look into one for the P&Y dates but man in the summer rate$ are way up there!
Good luck, Robb
Millie and I are booked for the convention and are hoping we get to meet some Bowsiters during that time.
Wife and I are registered, flights booked and a hotel room in a different tower than Zack.
Looks like P&Y is offering a lower rate (after I paid rack-rate, of course!) and a chance to get a free room... Heck of a deal for someone!
Anyone doing the 3D shoot?
Shug......any truth to the rumor you’re donating a brand new RTIC (or equivalent) cooler to the winner of the 3D shoot?!!
I’m pretty sure the 3D shoot took place during the originally scheduled weekend last month. I didn’t attend but I’m told it was very poorly done.
I don’t see any shoots on the Silver Arrow Bowmen calendar or NBHA calendar for that weekend. That said if there is a shoot I’ll be there.
Edit: The P&Y shoot did take place in April. However, there is the annual Bowhunter Challenge 3D shoot at the Silver Arrow Bowmen club range on July 17th.

See link for shoot information. Past and future.
What tower is Zack in? I want to make sure that I am in the other one ;^)
Joke is on all of you. I have a room in every tower!
It's sad that a number of you can't make it this year. This is shaping up to be one of the best ever.
I'll be there and look forward to spending more time socializing than the past 6 years. See you there.
Just booked. Will be my first one. I’m lucky to have family to stay with.
The wife and I will be there.
I wouldn’t miss a P&Y Convention! Best Bowhunter gatherings of all time. Frank
I’m going to try out the SAB shoot on Saturday if anyone needs a ride.
We will be there. Going to be fun!
I couldn't find this thread in the first 200 posts and my phone wouldn't bring up page 3, so google to the rescue!
Who is excited for Reno?! Better question, who is training for Reno???
Based on your snaps tonight I’d say you’re closing in on the equivalent of “sheep shape” for convention going. Just watch out for those tree seeds!
Tree seeds!! Dang ner killed him in the big D. ;)
Here's a question for those who'll be in Reno (since it'll be our first).
Will there be a BOWSITE meet and greet? If so, Millie and I will bring K114 for anyone to look at and make an entry into the journal.
Let me know.
Thanks
Just a light 'run' last night KB;) Golf tournament Sunday should be a good test!
In all seriousness, I look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!! It will be a great time I'm sure!
Haven't heard if there are plans for a bowsite event but would guess they are in the works!
Thank goodness Palmquist is ramping up his training regiment.
I apparently need to up my game to keep up with the rest of the guys at my table...
Going to be a great time! Looking forward to it!
Still hoping the border opens in time! I'll have a booth in the outfitter section, just may not be able to get to it!! Fingers crossed something gets announced soon.
Russ, just get to Mexico, from there it's smooth sailing :)
StickFlicker's Link
Russ, the news is reporting a possible opening beginning on June, 22. See the link.
We'll wait and see what happens later in June. Manitoba is probably the worst spot on the continent right now. Even if the borders open, it sounds like only double vaccinated people will avoid the 14 day quarantine upon return. As much as I want to be at the convention, burning 3 weeks of holidays would be tough to justify!
Bummed I can't make this one.
We are excited for this one, should be fun. Looking forward to it all, especially the Bowsite meet and greet!
That’s always such a great event Nick. I can’t wait either.
The Bowsite Meet and Greet is my favorite event at P&Y by far…
How is Zack going to up his game this year? I’m thinking a tattoo.
I heard he’s thinking of doing a “boat” yoga class, for one of the seminars.
Pretty inspiring stuff!….
Lend him your chaps Kaleb
KB,
I’m bringing sharpies for the first person to pass out in my room
T-Roy, Zack slept like that on our trip as well! He said he was just helping the first mate make sure the boat didn't move far when the anchor line broke!?
It's looking increasingly like I won't be able to make it. We just don't have any coverage at work. I was hoping to even just make it for Saturday night, but it's a day up and a day back. I'm bummed. Arizona was my first and I haven't missed since and I really look forward to the conferences.
Ugh..going to hurt missing this one. Familial duty calls however. Going to be a great convention, you guys will have a blast. The facility is great and In-n-Out is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel :)
Haven't missed since Dallas, but not looking good here either. Should know for sure early next week.
Same as PAV, been to all since Dallas, but just not gonna happen this year for me either. July just isn’t a good month for me.
—Jim
I’ll be there. Beats sitting at home waiting for the border to open.
If everything goes well and I get my 2nd vax on Monday, I'll be able to head to Reno! It will be the first trip out of province since March of 2020! Looking forward to seeing you guys, come by the booth for a visit!

If you are planning on attending, and want to attend any or all of the dinners, please book it soon as those events may not be available for walk-ins due to meal head count requirements.
See you there!
~OM
Unfortunately due to a family medical emergency Rick and I had to cancel our reservations and are unable to attend.
Since we had to cancel our plans to be at the convention I'm thinking about bidding in their on line auctions.
Curious, has anyone participated in their auctions?
My wife bid on a P&Y on-line auction last year and got a screaming deal on a spring black bear hunt. No issues at all with the auction process
Had to cancel. I was really looking forward to this one. Too many irons in the fire with a new job for it to work this time.
I just wanted to be a hundo! Lol
I am excited for a hundo degrees!
Just checked the forecast...40 Celcius!!! Too hot for this Canadian, will have to come up with a way to stay cool and hydrated....
You guys need to post some pics next week too! At the bowsite gathering as well.
The great thing about having it at the Nugget Casino is you never have to leave the building. You could literally spend all day, everyday in the hotel and convention center.
I would highly recommend taking the Harrah's automobile museum tour on Saturday. I went through it when we were looking for tours and it is unreal.
Hope everyone has a blast. This year was going to be my first one, but when they moved it to July it sunk my battleship.
Man I so wish I could make it, but I'm having the busiest year I ever had at work.
Was in for the last one, but that got canceled. Anyone know if they are going to go year to year or biannual?? Any way everyone have a great time and post ton of pictures/stories from the convention. Ed
The next one should be in Fairbanks AK in January.. just to balance things out
I bet Springfield for the museum opening.
George:
It’s close to you....head over for a day.
Going to be tough to get much work done today and tomorrow;)
Matt good thing I’m retired eh?
So many of you guys just living the dream!
Getting all my work done today and tomorrow, because I have a hard time believing I'll get much done in Reno...
Start driving later today, should be crossing the border around 7. If all goes well, see you on Wednesday!!
Sitting in Winnemucca for the evening. Headed to dinner after bit, when it cools down some.
I'll be there Wednesday afternoon... I'll probably be in the gym most of the evening. Ed F
The date change put the convention a little too close to my Columbia BT hunt, so I’m gonna have to miss this one. I nominate Zack to drink my beers.
Already some familiar faces here.....good to see them and to be back together again.
The NEW velvet record book is also here....
BEG…..maybe Zack could even throw down a couple of flaming donkeys, as well. You know, just for old times sake…
The new velvet record book is available!
