My friend made these arrows. The shafts are '"footed" 4 x hand dipped. Fletching are all hand cut and the points are obsidian hand knapped. Then he made the box out of cedar a mirrored the inside covers so that you can see the arrows better. He says they will never be shot, and I don't blame him. TMBB

Wow, that's a work of art.

Way nice! But if I were him, I’d want to kill one deer with them then retire and display them, including the killer arrow.

A work of art to be sure, but there’s something not quite right about putting that much effort into an arrow that will never be shot or hunted with.....

I guess that’s just my bias against collecting things that were meant to be USED.

Art or arrows? Arrows or Art???

High level however they are viewed or used.

Any other pictures of the full length shafts. The footing fletching and the whole case. That is unreal.

GF He did not collect Something someone else created to be used he made it with his own hands for his specific intended purpose

This is the kind of stuff that makes me wish for a big old house with tons of display space. Too nice to use, too nice to hide away. Eye candy of the best sort. Thanks for the great pictures.

I agree with Dale I like to see a bloody arrow in a quiver. I’d hunt and kill with one then put it in the display box. Beautiful work!

05-May-21
How about you do a drawing or a fundraiser where you sell tickets for $20 and make another dozen for one of us addicts on bowsite. That is beautiful work. Would love those hangin over my fireplace. Just a thought.

Man, if I could knap stone like that I would be dragging out the longbow and getting at least one bloody. He definitely has mad skills, and should be selling those arrows.

im a compound guy and I di have a recurve I made my senior year in high school. I do pick it up every now and then. Traditional is very addictive. It would be really special if he used one of those arrows to harvest an animal/critter. Very cool thanks for sharing!

Those are impressive! What does The shafts are '"footed" mean?

08-May-21
John,

When a shaft id "footed that me3ans that it is spliced with another piece of wood. Originally this was done to save an arrow that had broken off the end. Then it evolved into adding weight and strength to the arrow by adding a stiffer and heavier wood to the front, thereby increasing penetration and durability. These arrows are made of 4 short pieces of wood, mostly because it's cool. Kind of like when George Mallory was asked why eh wanted to climb Mt. Everest, "Because it's there" he said. TMBB

I have shot one of these arrows. I shot a turkey that I did not recover. These arrows were a labor of love. The wood in the arrows are Osage, wenge, cedar and purple heart.. It took 4 years to complete the whole project. An hour here and there. I just retired from the residential trash business and I'm also the president of the Maine Traditional Archers. Making my own equipment is the best part of trad archery.
