What broadhead and what weight for this year's elk.
Slick Trick Magnums 125 Grains
100 grain slick trick viper trick
100 grain rocket steelhead
100 grain original spitfire
One of the above heads for me. All 3 are proven favorites of mine, and will be in my quiver.
Probably going to hunt with my trad bow this year. So, it’ll be a 165 grain tusker single bevel.
Obsidian
Obsidian
Flint and obsidian
Flint and obsidian
These for at least a few…
Nice Tavis. You knap them yourself?
I'm going to carrying Iron Will 125gr. this year. I shot them and they fly great and resharpen easy too.
Old style 145 grain snuffer for anything under 40 and SS snuffers for anything over 40 or in windy conditions. I have to test about 6 arrows to find one that will fly the big ones straight, but its worth it as I have never seen anything that cuts a hole through an animal like a big snuffer!
Wasp Jak-Hammer select-a-cut 1.5 inch 3 blade. 100 grain on Axis 300 camo shafts 475 grain total arrow weight out of 73 pound PSE Xpedite 30 inch draw 295fps.
Solid 125 Ironwills - Flying perfectly with my field points.
Iron Will 125V, same as last three years.
You mean no one is using the. Broadheads that makes mega Holes for mega meat?

Not elk hunting, but planning on using 100 grain VPA 3 blades during my Wyoming moose hunt.
3 blade Thunderhead's in 100 grain for years
Good luck, Robb
Magnus Buzzcut 125 two blade
Thunderhead Nitro for me, used them on my last elk hunk with great success.
QAD exodus 100gr for elk and moose if tuning goes well, bow is shooting bullet holes haven't shot bh's yet, if they give me issues which shouldn't be the case I will use sevr 1.5" titanium's
I'll be using one of my top 2 heads, the 100 grain Viper Trick with a 95 grain insert for a total arrow weight of 425 grains!
ElkNut
Slick trick standard 125, why change when it’s worked excellent ever since it came out!!
VPA 100Gr. Solid. Same as the last several years. Just zero issues with solid steel.
125 gr. Strikers and Iron Will 125gr.
Cutthroat 200 gr 2 blade.
So basically we all agree on the "best elk broadhead" next time one of those threads is started! :-)
Exodus for me, but wish I could convince the outfitter to allow us to use a Hypodermic!
Ill be using these for deer and Ironwill for bear.
SevR titanium 1.5” I hunt CO otc so I’m likely just talking my bow for a walk. They look good in my quiver though.
Going to try Iron Will 100’s…They just came today! If they shoot, I’m going “all in”. Love the looks of this head and they are as sharp as anything I’ve ever tried out of the box.
Muzzy 3 blade 100 grain. They just keep killing every year and fly great. Why change?
Magnus Black Hornet 4-blade and some older version Wac’em.
Kayuga 175 4 blades (actually 195 gr) i already did some live testing in Namibia in June from low energy set up :)
Ive never seen those Kayuga before. Pretty slick design
100 grain viper trick for elk.
Taking the plunge and dropping $1,600 on a half dozen of these from bishops archery. Better safe than sorry.
100 viper trick whitetails
That's not a plunge that's a death leap! (grin) I didn't even pay that much for my first car!!!
ElkNut
Me either, Paul! Yowzer! Would be cheaper to just buy a shovel and hammer into a point!
That Kayuga is definitely an interesting head. What draw weight and arrow mass?
Oh, and no, I am not that talented at flint knapping! Bought these to shoot a few critters with.
Have done pretty well with the Snuffers and VPAs over the years off my longbow and wanted to do another step back. Osage self bow, cane arrows and knapped flint and obsidian points…. Gotta keep it interesting ;-)
In my 65 years of Bowhunting (I started in 1956) I have seen/heard this zillions of times.. Fortynatly, today, we can "pick the one we like" & suits "our" bowhunting needs. I'm like others & like to play around with tackle but whe n I go to the woods, I still use a more developed head os one that came out in the mid 70s with replaceable blades. A Rocky Mountain. I feel "they" are the basis of many of todays replacable blade heads. No longer made I was fortunate to be in contact with Barries son & "made a deal" for lets say "a bunch" + blades on 3 models at that time. I have enough for my lifetime. Anyway, currently the Ironhead & it will down any North American game I have (many) or will ever bowhunt. Granted, Africa (a few critters) may require a different style. Anyway, we are fortunate to have many great heads out there to fit anyones needs & budget. No, I don't play like I used to due to the "cost per head" for so many today.. Good luck & if we put it where we need to, most will do the job..
Magnus Black Hornet. I have killed a lot of animals, small to huge with them. I will always support a company with an unconditional life-time guarantee and made is USA. Magnus is that company.
Slick trick standard and viper tricks.
Wasp. Tried and true. Jak Hammers.
Hybrid- zebra with a stickbow, what a bad ass pic! Cool broadhead I’ve never seen.
Hunted Namibia a few years back and couldn’t get it done with my Black Widow so switched to my sons compound. Still couldn’t close the deal on a zebra. That is one smart critter, congrats on the accomplishment !
Thanks ! Yes they are tricky I shot this one as it was circling me, a few meter before getting my wind. 32 meter shot, heart shot down upon sight in 120 m
250 Cutthroat and 250 Ironwills
Wasp Jak Hammers 1.5” select a cut and drones will be in my quiver. Son will have the Jak Knifes.
Tavis, my first car was 35.00, no kidding! Gas was 19 cents a gallon, Ouch!!!!
ElkNut
Slick Trick Standard 100s. Worked well on the last two bulls
If I do hunt elk, it will be OTC and 125gr. VPA
Muzzy 100 grains or Thunderhead 100 grains. Use them for long, long time
100 grain slick trick standard
If I had an elk tag I'd have Trypans in my quiver.
125 gr evolution outdoors Jekyll. Fly like field tips. Nice 4 blade hole
Taking the plunge and dropping $1,600 on a half dozen of these from bishops archery. Better safe than sorry.
125g 4 blade Grim Reaper Micro Hades.
175 gr VPA from the Great Plains recurve for Colorado elk.
175 gr VPA from the Great Plains recurve for Colorado elk.
Mike Sohm has always crafted the broadheads I favor....Magnus. Going with the black hornets again this year. Never had a need or desire to change to another make.
Debating between 125 grain Slick Trick standards which group nearly as tight as my field points to 60 yards or 125 3 blade vented VPAs which group about 6” at 60 yards. 12 VPA arrows are all put together pre-shot to 60 to sort out any fliers but at 290 FPS they just aren’t real forgiving. The VPA grouping is plenty tight for an elk and much further than I plan to shoot but the Slick Tricks are more forgiving or little form errors that will surely arise when shooting from awkward positions. I’ve got plenty of Slick Tricks but need to shoot these VPA at some point so………
125 slick trick magnums. I have been killing with them for about 10 years
I'm actually going back to fixed blades this year after a 12 year hiatus. Gonna shoot the Dirt Nap heads.
