Just looking at a return to NL. Getting repeated calls from our former outfitter. Many openings for the 2021 fall hunt. Interested in who might be going this fall; bow or rifle. What's planned for 2022, 2023, or 2024.

What prices are you seeing for the hunts there nowadays?

Our outfitter is offering late September through first of Nov. $5,000, 1 x 1. Says moose numbers are excellent. JL, pm sent.

Headed up in 3 weeks. Hoping numbers and sizes are up. Should be with the limited hunting last year. Also counting on smooth traveling with the testings and ferry crossing details.

Going back next year. NL is a great place to bow hunt

In the process of beginning to book for 2023…. Open to PM on guide suggestions! Me and two friends from PA are looking to book a trip. They’ll rifle hunt, I’ll probably bring both if able….I’d like to shoot one with my bow but if it comes down to it I’m not ashamed to use my rifle.

Newfi does that $5000 cover everything?

23-Sep-21
It likely doesnt cover the extra 3 days of hotel that we are experiencing because we cant get on the float plane due to high winds and then fog. Missed 2 days of our hunt so far. Hoping it ends better.

I just crossed the border it was a breeze 10 minutes tops. We made copies of everything and had them in a individual folder. For each person. Agent said you guys got it together, wished everyone did that.

Always find it ironic that so many guys play impossible draw odds to hunt moose in the states or high cost elsewhere in Canada when you can go to Newfoundland anytime or every year for $5k. If you haven’t been to Newfoundland you need to go. I’ve had luck there with Moose, Woody Stags and Black bear. Archery paradise.

Odds of shooting a bigger moose in the states is better . But your correct getting the tag is a problem. Hunted moose in Albert and nfld both great. In alberta now.

Well it turned out ok, but we certainly learned that weather can really affect plans on a Newfoundland hunt. Finally left float base and flew in at 8am Friday. Camp cook served us breakfast. Put my bow together and took a couple practice shots. Guide took me uphill behind camp to a good glassing area and started calling. I spotted a small bull about 600 yds out coming our way. As he got closer i asked guide what the plan was since we were in wide open area. He said said lets run downhill a ways. He set a decoy up and kept calling. I got 75yds in front of him and found a couple small trees for cover. Less than 10 min later the bull appeared about 35 yds to my left but didnt give me a shot. Bull headed towards decoy. I backed out, ran 40yds uphill and reset. Bull walked by at 25 yds and i got a good shot. By 10:30am or so I was all done.

I then second guessed weather i shouldve waited for a bigger bull but after only 2 decent days of weather it got really windy, rainy and foggy. Of the other 2 guys bowhunting with me, one tagged out on a little bigger bull and the other struggled to get close the rest of the hunt due to weather.

If you're hunting moose in a fly-in location, you can always expect weather to be part of the problem. That just comes along with moose hunting, the time of year, and the wet locations they inhabit. Maybe not in Wyoming, but anywhere in Canada. When I go I basically expect to lose a day in travel, and I expect that 25% of my hunt days are gonna have crappy weather. If I do better, bonus. It can certainly be worse as well.
