Wyoming has some cow tags that are good in August, I think on private land.

Paul Aug is my favorite time to hunt CO. You get to hunt before the crowds show up.

Idaho, Aug 15th for cow tags! Not the whole state but plenty of areas that do!

Colorado has Private Land Only cow tags (half price for nonresidents) that starts around August 15. From what I encounter in the woods, that "private land only" restriction appears to be mostly a suggestion.

California, Nevada, and Utah - every one of them pretty tough to draw.

You can go OTC in Utah and the bow dates start in mid-August.

Agree with John, August was great for hunting unpressured elk. Also always liked having Labor Day holiday weekend spaced in there somewhere. With the new 9/2 date in CO, elk archery will open the day after Labor Day in 2025. I will hopefully be retired by then, so no big deal for me. But my hunting partners will have a harder time getting time off from work.
