Our live hunt starts tonight
I'm here in Canada right now and we're going to discuss our Live hunt. First hunt from Canada since Covid!
Getting here was actually quite easy. You have to be vaccinated, and you have to get a Covid Test within 72 hours. Bring your paperwork with you and that's about it. IT WAS NOT HARD AT ALL! I expected worse.
Unfortunately, these outfitter up here are struggling. I was originally the only guy in camp all week, but Rob got a guy from Winnipeg to hunt too, so there's two of us now.
The biggest problem I've had since arriving is finding out that my new package of Slick Trick broadheads have bad threads. Not one of them would screw into an insert. There was another thread about this earlier in the month and now I've experienced it first hand. But if that's the biggest problem I have on this trip, I'm doing OK!
We will be posting daily at the end of the evening. It may be late for many of you but we'll keep after it.
Yes, the hunt is baited. Get over it. I am not interested in turning this discussion into a pissing contest about baiting.
Buy a thread die and run it over your threads it will clean them up so that they will work.
Rock, yes - plan to do that when I get home. I shouldn't need to do that however.
Kill a big one Pat! Stinking Slicktricks. What are you using now? Hopefully you had some old stock on hand? Shoot straight!
Good luck Pat!!! Sounds like Rob sure runs an awesome camp up there.
Good luck. Enjoy your hunt.
Good luck Pat! Kill a bruiser!!
Good luck! Looking forward to the results!
Good luck! I'll be following along
Good luck Pat! There’s never a bad time to be hunting deer in Saskatchewan!
Twine, I still have a batch, (pre-conglomerate) and they are fine. Just replaced the blades.
Good luck Pat, I hope you get one bigger than the one you got a few years ago!
I smell a future blood trail challenge. Good luck!
I believe that the previous Slick Trick related thread was about ferrule/washer tolerances. Now your threads aren't up to speed. Disappointing to say the least......Are you shooting Standards, Magnums, Viper Tricks, Wicked Tricks, or something else? I was just curious if the challenges are restricted to one specific model of Slick Trick versus all of them.
Slick Trick Standards, 4 blade 100 gr. This is not a washer tolerance issue. The threads are not machined correctly. Impossible to screw in and totally worthless.
Send them back and let them know who you are. Good luck!
Will be there in a month... good luck!
Three bucks and a doe so far. Two 8’s and a 4. Nothing mature but it’s not even 3pm yet.
Your in em that’s all that matters pat
I get em Pat. Good luck, kill a big one.
Whats the temperature and weather
30's today, 20's tomorrow.
Be patient (I know you are), a mature buck with perfect symmetry will show up. My prediction is 174 5/8” 10 point.
Hope you get a poke at a 114.
What do you get for tags Pat? 1 buck tag?
Pat, obviously you are looking for a nice buck when you go that far north but what exact characteristics or minimums are you looking for? Certain width, chocolate racks, 150", 5year+, etc?
Hancock. If I like him I’ll shoot him. Not holding out for a giant or anything like that. I’ll shoot that buck from earlier if I get a chance. If Rob has a really big buck show up I will focus on him for the entire hunt. As of now it’s mostly 150-160 bucks on cam.
I've been looking forward to this. Thanks so much for the updates, Pat.
Sorry to hear about your SlickTrick woes. I've shot 125 grain Magnums ever since ST's were available, but their post-Gary prices, and issues like this have me a little leery of restocking my quiver with them. Hopefully you'll have a nice juicy entry/exit wound channel to show us that will change my mind.
Saskatchewan is awesome. Have fun and good winds
I look forward to reading about your hunt there every year Pat. Good luck!
I always enjoy this thread good luck Pat
Following! Tell Rob hello from Joey in Louisiana. I will be there on the 24th for a week long bowhunt. I shot a 160" beautiful symmetrical 10 with my rifle two years ago. Last year was supposed to be my first bowhunt, and got pushed back. Glad to see you are seeing some bucks. You'll get a good one.
Always enjoy your Canada and Kansas deer hunts. Good luck
No Kansas hunt this year.
No Kansas hunt this year.
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
That’s a day ruiner…..no Kansas
Good luck Pat!
But I’m a little confused! You said in the feature: “It was touch and go with all the border closures and restrictions, and it was a pain in the ass to adhere to all the requirements, but I'm glad I persevered. I am the only hunter in camp. The other guys that booked decided not to take the risk.”
But you said here: “ Getting here was actually quite easy. You have to be vaccinated, and you have to get a Covid Test within 72 hours. Bring your paperwork with you and that's about it. IT WAS NOT HARD AT ALL! I expected worse.”
That sounds a bit contradictory....................
That's a good thing, right? Exciting update tomorrow...?
You have to get a test 72 hours before you arrive or after arriving in Canada?
Good luck Pat! Sure wish these restrictions would have not happened and I was up there with ya. I'll be sure to send you updates from Kansas though.
Rob is one of my favorite guides all time. Awesome funny guy!
Enjoy your hunt Pan and I hope you get a big buck. I have a nice one hanging around my back yard.
Good luck, Pat! I did have the ferrule, blade and washer tolerance issue that Jake spoke about. The bad thing is they spun really well and are razor sharp. Unless I hear they are gonna hold their quality in a little higher regards, I’m moving to another COC head. Pretty sad.
Again, best of luck!
Hope you took your long johns along. That's about 50 degrees colder than what we've been experiencing.
Rob found a bunch of sheds last winter (if I remember correctly from the pics) Does he have any of those bucks on camera, this year?
No updates? Hunt finished early?
Pat just can't get the trophy pics to rotate ; ) Looks like the deer is hanging already.
Quick question, where was your first point of entry into canada and how long did it take to get through customs? I get into calgary and then connect to saskatoon.
Good luck Pat. Thanks for posting and sharing.
Looking for updates it’s the 13th You must have shot a nice one already!
Lack of service maybe? Long tracking job? too many Canadian whiskeys? wraslin match with a grizz? sombodys gotta know somthin!
Curiouser and curiouser…;^)
I’m betting he got some cellular trial cam pics on his phone, and is headed back to Ohio.
Amish coon hunting season opened yesterday.
Hahaha T-Roy! That definitely warrants a trip back home to protect the homestead lol
Quick question, where was your first point of entry into canada and how long did it take to get through customs? I get into calgary and then connect to saskatoon.

Hopefully the nearby fires aren’t the reason for no updates.
Congrats Pat! Incredible buck!
Great buck. Enjoyed the video.
Boy that shot but the hurt on him quickly!
Great video. Congrats Pat. Awesome deer.
I mean, it's ok...I'm sure anyone of us could have killed that deer...If we had: Paid for the hunt, traveled to Canada, sat on that stand, and made a killing shot at the moment of truth. Heck, probably with a longbow!!!
I'm kidding!!! Nice buck Pat. Congratulations, and great shot!!!
Congrats Pat. Gorgeous buck any day of the hunt!
I don't see the video either.
Well that was quick! Great buck Pat congrats!
You were dressed for the occasion. Awesome buck and no blood trial, congratulations!
Wanna see the video… hit the home page… click on Saskatchewan Whitetail live…day 2
Pat what bow are you shooting this year?
Way to go Pat. Beautiful buck! Great video thanks for taking us along
Ma-PAdeerslayer, I used a Mathews V3 on this hunt. I’m getting the new Mathews bow shortly but I have no idea what it is until it arrives.
Congrats Pat!!!! Great shot! Way to stick it out!
With that many deer around did any ever wind you?
I’m missing something????
Oh, figured it out!
Great video and great buck! I love that shot angle, too! Congratulations, Pat!
What organs did you hit with that shot? Just curious. It was obviously quite devastating.
great deer Pat! thanks for putting up with all our impatient asses!
That was a damn big chicken! Congrats!
Congrats on a dandy buck, great video!
Congratulations... nice buck.
12yards, the better question was what organ wasn’t hit? Maybe the pancreas!
We gutted him and determined it was intestines, stomach, liver, lung and heart, the broadhead was past the meat but inside the hide. My favorite shot if you’re comfortable taking it. Just remember the aiming point is way back near the ham. Also, I don’t recommend this angle with a mechanical broadhead.
Damn that was short and sweet congrats on a great hunt super 8 thanks for letting us tag along Lewis
Congratulations Pat! Great shot on a great buck!
Great buck!
Spike- go to the home page
Love the video. That buck went “all systems down” pretty quick. Man that’ll get a guy fired up. Gorgeous, and congrats again
Congrats, Pat. Nice buck.
Congrats on a fine buck! Wow- day and a half hunt................is that your quickest ever?
Body mass + antler mass = a happy hunter! Congratulations!
Congratulations Pat. Great looking buck!
Nice shot. That's a lot of organs you took out. When I get a quartering away shot my focus is on the opposite front leg. Did you get to put that awesome buck on the scales yet? Congratulations again!
What a brute. Okay well done
He's a beaut! Congrats Pat!
Hell of a shot Pat. I’ve taken that shot once on a doe before I couldn’t get a shot off and had similar results. 30 yards and fell over dead.
I just shot the V3 at the shop last weekend…a “used one”…
If the season didn’t open Monday I’d have left with it…
That buck seemed to have a nice dark aiming point on its hair that would have hit the opposite shoulder. Curious on the outcome if hit there vs Pats hit. Nice deer!
Great buck and a hell of a shot.
Fantastic shot! That hard quartering away shot is of course very deadly, but also very difficult to pull off!! I’ve screwed it up myself by shooting too close to the front leg and passing it through the armpit. Congrats!!
Congrats Pat. Great hunt.
Awesome buck Pat, I cant wait to get in the stand!
Mike, Here is a buck I shot last year that came out a little further back than I like. Came out in the armpit.
It still didn’t go over 120 yards. 1950s Bear static recurve 50#
heavy arrow, IW broadhead
Nice shot, really nice buck. Congratulations Pat.
Great buck Pat, congrats!
What a brute. Okay well done
Nice buck, nice shot, CONGRATS!
Crazy how the leaves have already fallen up here...
Cool buck and cool footage for sure. I too love the quartering away shot. Once that diaphragm is punctured, the animal won’t go far. Good job and thanks for sharing Pat.
Congrats. Cool heavy buck
Goelk, outfitter is Rob Nye with Canadian Trophy Quest. They have a website and the owner/booking is done with Donnie Sealy whos contact info is on the website. Rob is prenominal guide and you won't go wrong booking with them. I'm about to make my 5th trip with them. Good luck. http://www.canadiantrophyquest.com/
Good luck Pat get a big one !!
Wonder why you linked it to same thread as your 2021 hunt? Either way - good luck!
good luck keep us updated
Nice buck and great shot! I'm new to slicktricks and love how they fly and the buck I shot on 10/7 sure didn't like them! I also had one ferrule that wouldn't screw into any of my arrows...just sent an email. Hopefully they will replace. Congrats!
Any yotes up their in Canada?
Ive taken that shit with a mech and complete pass through, out the neck. It's a devastating shot angle.
Congrats Pat great looking buck Lewis
Congrats, you decided on a main frame eight... that's the sexy choice lately! ;0)
I'm confused. Are you guys congratulating him for last year's buck? Or did he already kill one on this hunt again?
What am I missing here? This is the live hunt from 2021 not 2022.
Agree. Also confused. Is the 2022 hunt now?
why do they use alfalfa bales/hay instead of corn ???
Very nice Trophy Pat- Congrats !! Excellent video. Thanks for taking us along on the hunt.
I think this site is on auto- pilot to tell you the truth.
I am glad others th8 k this is weird. So crazy how many replies an old thread can get
Yeah not too mobile friendly from main link on bowsite. I’m confused too
Sorry for the confusion. Steve posted before I had the chance to start a new discussion thread and then I couldn't get an internet connection until just now. I'll start a new thread. That 8 was from 2021, today was our first day.
