A few years ago I stopped to visit Mark Rocke on my way back home from an Iowa hunt. After a quick tour of his place we stopped at the shed. He has what I call the best butcher shop I’ve seen that’s non commercial. They were in the process of butchering a few animals that day. It impressed me how the entire family down to the grandkids worked together. I thought someday I would like to build a mini version.
With Charlie Rehor and the annual doe slam coming up this was as good as a time as any to make it happen. Charlie can fill a cooler pretty fast if given the opportunity . Here’s a few pics of how I built it.
Very nice, the plan is to get one in my machine shed this fall, we'll see how it goes..
Dennis, what a great week end project :). Nicely done. My best, Paul
Very nice project. Glad you made the “contract completion date!” Charlie will be there soon.
Nice project.. Hope you get a lot of use this fall.
That awesome, Dennis……come build me one! ??
I'm jealous. Awesome setup!
Looks awesome, Dennis! Is there a reason why you used metal studs to frame it vs conventional lumber?
Great job Dennis, looks like you even got Reed to give a hand.
I'm not on Facebook but Julie showed me the video you posted of all the bucks coming under your stand on the first day, really good video! Best of luck to you guys this season. -Jim
Thanks Dennis. That is bad ass. I intend on building one this winter. Those pics help.
Turned out well Dennis, good luck filling it, I'm sure Reed is ready to do his part.
Reminds me of the "Follow along mount threads"..................I miss those!
That’s pretty damn cool pun intended lol great job if you have the time I would love to know what materials you used for the cooler and the cost as I have a friend wanting to build one on his place in Ky.With all the new regulations because of cwd he has to haul his deer quiet a distance to cool it down. Thanks for sharing Lewis
Now THAT..... is cool. =D
Awesome on a stick actually. Very well thought out.
Go get em Hi Tech Charlie!
How much money is his wife giving you for the hit? :)
awesome, dry aged meats is on the menu! I wish I had the room for that setup.
I have always wanted to do that. Nicely done.
Never heard of a Coolbot. Ingenious.
Very nice! Really like the rail set up. My buddy bought a small used commercial walk-in off of Ebay this summer. He toyed around with building one like yours but he has more money than time;)
Ol Charlie is lickin his chops to fill that.. Nicely done.
Thanks guys.
Troy, I used the metal studs because they were free! Lol… A good buddy gave them to me. He had left over from a construction job. I would think they would hold the temp better but not sure on that.
Lewis, not sure of the cost but not cheap. Here is a list of some of the materials.
-Studs for wall -OSB for inside and outside wall - exterior paint to seal and help with moisture on walls -2” foam with vapor shield for the insulation -handi spray foam for any gaps. If you have any air getting in you might have moisture problem that could rot any wood. -RFP fiberglass panels for finished inside walls -coolbot to override air conditioning unit. -air conditioner -1/2”x2” rail cut and bent to length for meat rail - hangers for rail from butcher supply company -trolley for meat rail -hoist -insulated door - lots of 2x4s for support beams for rail and hoist.
Thanks for the info Dennis again congrats great job Lewis
Nice work...thanks for sharing!
That’s really nice Dennis!
I just saw this thread so I’m packing some extra broad-heads. I’ll arrive for the “doe slam” in a few days. Stoked
