On our Deeded Lands we manage the bucks. We have doe tags but do not take does. Alot of 8 point and lessor Bucks are being passed. Now that the buck to doe population is where it needs to be and proper management is practiced, we will enjoy quality bucks for well into the future!!

Glad to see you were able to still hunt thru the storms. Hopefully this early storm doesn't hurt your deer herd too much.

JL, the forest is a tangled mess of snow covered alders, broken tree tops and fallen tree. It is hampering the wolves more than the deer. When a wolf chases in this mess he has to go under, drag itself over or completely go around what a deer can just jump over. They (Wolves) are poking their eyes and scraping their bellies during chases. The wolf loses precious time going around giving the deer ample time to escape. It isn't pretty for the wolf right now out there. Also, with all the tree that have fallen over, there is now Old Man's Beard, a moss that hangs on tree branches, right at the deers noses. Giving them a well needed boost of minerals. Deer have eaten what (Moss) was in reach the last couple of years. With all the browse bent over with snow they have a bounty of browse also. Deer are going into winter healthy with temps hovering around 0 C. Again, the best thing that could've happen for the deer.
Our Northern Whitetails know how to survive wolves and snow covered forests. Otherwise they would not be here!!

This is a heavy traveled deer trail to one of our remote sites. Under the canopy, where the deer live, snow is only inches deep. In the swamps and open areas, snow is knee high.
