I'm living the dream in 2021. Had an amazing dall sheep hunt in August taking an awesome ram and now Nov 4 took down a mega 8 in Illinois. This deer we called Buster Douglas. Last year he was an awesome 8pt but we decided to let him go. We were not sure if he was 4 or 5. I found his sheds this past spring and they scores 148 with spread figured in. Awesome deer!
We started getting trail cam pics in October and man did he look incredible
Monday night one brother had him out in the alfalfa 150 yards away and watched him for 10 min. Tuesday night brother #2 has him come in to 43 yards following does. He thinks he is going to follow them right to 25 so he waits. One doe peels off and off course he follows her into the woods. An hr later he pops out by me (I'm 250 yards apart) right at dark 49 yards. To far to dark not a good shot.
Nov 4 finally the winds are switching to the South. This is the wind I need to get deep into the bedding area. Follow a creek bed in the base of 2 ravines. Pop up into the stand in the heart of our property. Temps are great, entrance was good, settle in by 7a.m ready for an all day sit. Run a few rattling sequences every few hrs. We called in 3 bucks one really pretty 10 whose a little to young. 5:15 a doe comes flying up the hill from the btm of the ravine with a forky hot on get tail. My buddy whose filming says I think I hear something in the btm might want to grab your bow. I grab the bow and get ready. Here comes a beautiful sight walking up the hill grunting. Binos up confirm its Buster! Get ready, Buster makes his way up and hangs a left turn down the trail behind our stand. I grunt to stop in the first opening he doesn't hear me. I grunt much louder a 2nd time in the 2nd opening. He stops in the open at 20 yards slightly quartering to me. Pin settles in and arrow away!! Hit him right behind the shoulder great hit. He goes busting down the ravine and out of sight Excitement ensues Buster the Mega 8 is down
We packed up our gear and made it back to the truck. Met up with brother, dad and uncle for the trail. We followed good blood 150 yards and found him piled up. Magnificent animal, incredible feeling, I'm in awe
Rough scored him at 170.75" Still in awe everytime I look at him. Living the Dream!
