Found my #1 dead
Whitetail Deer

Found my #1 dead. They got locked up and drowned. Pulling them out they came apart pretty easy but they couldn't touch in the little pocket of water they were in.
What a shame. Terrible way to lose a couple of nice bucks.
What a shame. Great looking bucks. I hope another big one takes their place in your area.
That has to put a tear or two in your eye.
Wow crazy … sorry for your loss
Be a rough way to go. Kinda fits in with the other thread about a shot not going as we hope and the result for the animal….
That's a gut punch for sure Glad you found them at least
Sorry Tanner, sucks to lose 2 great bucks like that.
Dang it!!!! Man that sucks dude. Prob hardly locked up just fell in during the chaos and each sucked in water. neither can swim cause they're going opposite directions.
That’s a sinking feeling! Sorry to hear that Tanner. You’ve got a history with some big whitetails in it, and this is no exception. The fact that you came upon them (seems like) in pretty short order means you are tuned in. Something to be said for that
Crazy thing is, I shot a buck Friday night (which I passed once already) and I mistaken him for a different deer. When I went to track him I heard rattling in the trees where he headed. I knew exactly what was going on so I quit blood trailing and went right in, the bigger buck that drowned was beating the sh*t out of my dead buck. I felt pretty bad about shooting a buck I wanted to pass but atleast I got a cool experience out of it. So the 2 that were locked up couldn't have been there for more than a day.
Wow....great story regardless!
That buck was a brawler! Live by the sword....die by the sword.
Man that’s some wild $h!t.
Lungshot x2. Mothers NA true is cruel, time go after number 3. Are you able to keep the racks?
That’s a kick in nads! :-(
It’s not much, bet at least a little consolation to know what happened to them.
Yes I was able to keep them, and beings I shot the one Friday night I am tagged out on bucks. I may not even shoot does as we got hit with EHD and our numbers seem down.
Ouch that one hurts me nothing is fair out there but seeing something like that just hurts good luck Lewis
Too bad, at least you know what happened and have the skull. EHD is a killer for sure. Has hit some areas this year
Mother nature is a cruel mistress.
Wildwilderness they were locked together and drowned
An acquaintance lost his #'s 2 & 3 that way last year. #1 was shot by a neighbor's daughter during the WI youth gun hunt.
Wow! Cool, but depressing find, I'm sure.
Least you know why you won't be seeing him around. That always drives a guy crazy wondering where a buck ended up when he disappears.
Curious, did you happen to save the meat?
No I did not, I didn't wanna chance it
My condolences. That's a bummer.
Got the euros back, it took me a while to get them back together how they were locked.
That’s a conversation piece for sure.
Bummer that they ended that way...
But that is a really cool tangled pair of Euros!
Went out doin what they do, it's a cool Euro
Too bad finding them that way.... the European mounts look great though. Once in most people's lifetime find.
Tough ending but nice display!
That’s a great looking mount. Too bad you couldn’t arrow him, but very cool you were able to find them.
Those euros will start many conversations.
Looking good
The euros are a nice tribute to 2 bucks who had an unfortunate demise.
Every time I see a pair of antlers locked up I'm reminded of a set of elk antlers at a ranch I used to hunt. The 2 bulls were sparring from opposite sides of a barb wire fence. I'm not sure why, but I've seen other bulls do this a few times. These 2 bulls got tangled in the barbed wire. According to the ranch owner, by the time they died, they had torn down over 100 yards of fence. The rat's nest of wire was twined around their antlers tighter than piano strings. Mother Nature doesn't feel sympathy.
Matt
Love the euros! Surprised that you could get them apart and back together the same way. The set I have don't come apart at all.
They came apart when I pulled them out, but it took me about a half hr and some muscle to get them back together.
Next time a bunny loving tree hugger or anti-hunter complains about hunting being "unnatural: and inhumane show them this picture. Or several out there with a buck partially fed upon by coyotes and wolves and the other one is still alive.
We had a situation like this at a metro deer control hunt and someone just took the heads without reporting it to DNR, was looked at as possibly being a poaching dump site in the pond.
