Beings I am tagged out on bucks I decided to go after an otter, this is the first season Nebraska has had and the state quota is 75 then the season is over. Didn't get a weight yet but he is 48" from nose to tip of tail.

That's a biggun! I have a treestand overlooking a big ditch and have got to watch them hunting quite a few times, almost always come in groups of 2-4 it seems. They are hell on fish I hear but haven't ever saw them catch one.

Yes it was a male, I have no idea if it's big or not I just know it was decent

The last year I trapped I caught 9 otters. They are pretty neat critters. I caught lots of them over the years but don't bother them anymore. I see them swim by my tree stand. If you get out during a snow storm you can see where they slide up and down the banks. They are fairly easy to catch but you need to drown them or catch them in 330's.

They sure are entertaining to watch. He is a beauty.

Their fur is absolutely beautiful. I caught a big male in a soybean field in a coyote set. Otter season was out and I had to release him, which was a feat in itself. He was caught by the front foot which made it even harder to spring the trap without getting bit. When it was all over I had a newfound respect for his strength and stamina.

Very cool, congratulations. Thanks for posting, I'm a Fur-Fish-Game subscriber, and admire the skill it takes to trap.

Haha, I caught him in a 220 conibear in a shallow water run between a slough and the river

Cool animals and a great trophy for sure. They are a tough animal.

Very nice! I caught one once in a beaver set. No tag so I turned it over to the PGC. It was a deep chocolate brown color with fantastic sheen. It had a bunch of ticks imbedded under it's chin. I thought that as kind of strange.

I had one (at least) at the lake make a terrible problem with a boat interior and the dock surface. I set a live trap with fish and caught him. He tore the trap to pieces before I got down to check the next morning. Terrible strong critters.

That’s a fish eating machine. A family of them will wipe a small lake out.

Well I used a 220 conibear with about a 4ft cable attached to a 2ft T handle stake. When I found him he was about 30yrds from where I set the trap, he pulled everything out of the ground.

Weighed him tonight and he was 24lbs. Not sure how that compares in the otter category?

They are cool critters.

I'll never forget the time my wife and I were fly fishing the Green River in Wyoming in our belly boats, and we had 4 otters swimming all around us, even thru our legs. They'd come to the surface and float on their backs while checking us out within arms reach. They showed no fear of us. To be honest, they were a lot bigger than I thought, and our encounter was a bit alarming at first. Once it was clear they were just playing around, it was one of the coolest wildlife experiences I've had.

He looks huge! Can’t believe we have a season in NE now. What part of the state did you get him in? Congrats! That’s a hell of a trophy.

Otter makes for a great fur hat! Not too warm like beaver can be, but just right on those cold days where a fur hat is a necessity.

Catching one in a foot trap is quite the circus. They are ferocious and nothing but muscle and athleticism.Had three this year swim up to me while I walked a lake levee at dark and hissed the whole way. They swam along side me and when I would stop the amigos would stop, come up out of the water and start hissing. They eventually escorted me off the property as they swam parrellel to the shore line seeing I continued off their property. They should be renamed "Water Wolverine" lol

They are beautiful animals and the pelts are amazing

Nice! Caught one this spring beaver trapping, but had to give it to the dnr because the season was close. Fascinating critters.
