Let’s start with the good news. I had some swelling on my head and some pretty good abrasions. For those that know me. When you are dealing with rocks that’s bound to be expected.
The bad news that turned into good news. I have an acute fracture on my T12. I have a burst fracture of n my L1. The specialist was to worried about the breaks. What had her concerned was all the ligament damage.
So off to surgery I went this morning. Surgery went well. I am free to move around in bed as much as my back will let me. I can’t get out of bed with out a brace.
They brought me a brace today. And PT will see me at 8 AM tomorrow. My Dr plans on seeing me tomorrow.
Since I am down in Corpus Christi Texas and I live in Minnesota. There are the holidays to contend with. The company I work for is sending a company plane for me and as soon as the Dr releases me I will be Minnesota bound for the holidays. The Dr said that shouldn’t be an issue and is glad I am flying and not driving.
I got very lucky. No spinal cord damage and I expect to be hunting this fall.
....and you lived to tell the story. Your Christmas came early....count your blessings.
I rolled my work van in May of 2020 due to hitting freshly mowed grass on the curve of a road just after the first rain we had in weeks. Only scratch i had on me was a cut on my leg from when i had to kick the windshield out to get outta the vehicle. Really makes u feel thankful for all that you’ve been blessed with….
I was sure I was toast.
Glad you’re doing as well as you are - damn lucky it wasn’t worse!!
Keep the Faith,
Robb
The good Lord sent me home to my family and that was the GREATEST GIFT I’ve ever received! Praise the Lord!
Glad injuries were treatable and you will be reunited with your family soon. You’ve got a very generous employer.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, and a wonderful Holiday Season with your Family.
Glad you are on the mend and live to fight another day and shoot some arrows.
Really glad you're ok! (Also, late December through March is the best time to get an injury and/or have surgery ;)
What career do you have in hunting? Do you work for a TV show?
In 1997 I was on my way North from a early day at college and was planning on a afternoon hunt in NW WI . It started to rain, sleet and snow a little bit, as I went under a bridge, hit black ice, the truck started to fishtail. I over corrected and and spun all the way around. I would have just slid into the ditch but there was a patch of gravel and the wheels hit it and the truck rolled into the cattails. Landed on its side. Crushed the topper which saved most of the truck except a door and part of a front fender. Archery equipment all over the truck bed, stand blew through a window in the topper.
After few breaths turned everything off, pushed my way out a side door and stood in the swamp up to my calves in muck. About 8-10 other vehicles did the same thing on both sides of the highway. Missed some culvert posts that would have impaled me.
Moral of story always slow down when weather abruptly changes.
Again you have some healing to do but good thing an angel was watching over you.
Surgery went well. I have been up walking for the last 2 days. Yesterday I did my first flight of stairs. Which was actually pretty easy.
As soon as my incision stops draining I will be released from the hospital.
Pain level isn’t bad. I would say at it’s worse it’s a 4.
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and get well wishes.
