The best way is to just start knocking on doors. Offer up free labor in exchange for permission to hunt their land. I know it isn't easy approaching strangers, but tell yourself that the worse thing they can possibly say to you is no.

I hope that you find something. I talked to the Base Camp Leasing agent in Ohio and he said that they were 100% leased in Ohio and on a national bases they had something like 16,700 people signed up looking for leases.

Post on the Michigan site. When I was bow hunting the wife's family farm in Michigan I did not hunt during gun season and a few weeks after gun season. Once the orange army came out, I wouldn't see any more deer, except on trail cam at night.

This issue, lack of a decent place to hunt, will be the downfall of hunting.

Leasing will be the down fall to hunting.

Get a Plat map or if ONX has Michigan landowners do that. Drive the roads off the beaten path in the area you'd like to hunt and look for deer and or good deer habitat. Then see who owns it on your Plat or ONX. Google their name to see if they live on the property or if they live somewhere else. Stop by the house on the property and if you know they live there ask for them by name and tell them what you are seeking and when you'd hunt. Do this in the off season. As said above the worst they can say is no. IF they say no ask them if they know any neighbors that may let you hunt. You'll find somewhere. Good luck.
50% of my hunting success comes from the "hunt" I just mentioned above armed with only a Plat Map and a smile. The other 50% is done with my bow actually in hand.

Try this site below. You could also drive a little further north where there is alot more public land to hunt.

Stonegirl...I feel your pain. All of us that don't have a fair amount of ground...either owned or exclusively private are in the same situation. Just the way it is. Good luck finding something.

Leasing will be the downfall of hunting. Maybe, maybe not. I’d rather lease land to hunt rather than stay home, or sit shoulder to shoulder on public land.

I agree Dale. I feel guilty, but, I've always hoped hunting/bow hunting would wane in popularity/numbers. I've always read that's the case. I have not seen it in the least. More hunters every decade than I remember the decade before and less good, uncrowded places to hunt. The numbers have increased demand, which, has lead to more posting than ever on private ground and more people on public. Where are all the new recruits going to go? Companies, game agencies and people that profit from hunters profit from all the money, but, seem to have lots of unpressured, posted ground - seems hypocritical to me

Never goin back
Never goin back
I beat my head against a wall hunting over-pressured public with many encounters like yours and more, involving drama, assaults, CO’s, sheriff’s police, concealed carry, etc. and crappy hunting for over two decades until I got my portable boat. That changed everything, Lol. Think barrier-to-entry. There’s a lot of them to pick from.
