2) Gather the whole family around the TV to watch the big Macy's Jan 6th Day Parade: This year the balloons are shaped like all your favorite insurrectionists! Yes, even Wacky Podium Guy!

3) Perform a historical reenactment of the violent, bloody battle by wandering slowly through your city hall, taking photos: The violent surge on our nation’s Capitol can easily be recreated by ages 3 and up. For added flair, open all gates and move barriers to the side in remembrance of the police officers who did exactly that.

4) Make sure to put out Tang and cookies for Trumpy Claus: He won't leave a signed check on the podium you stole unless you do.

5) Hide fraudulent ballots around the house for the kids to find: A great home activity for your young ones. It’s never too early to sow doubt in the democratic system.

6) Dress up as a buffalo: Dress to impress! The buffalo is the noblest of creatures to be hunted. So majestic.

7) Gather the family around the fire to relisten to Trump's speech ordering you to loot, kill, and destroy: Okay, so he explicitly said to be peaceful, but we know what he really meant.

8) Conduct readings of Pelosi’s written refusal of Trump’s request to have 10,000 National Guard on standby: There may be no record of this refusal, but imagining what it did say makes for a great party game. Your kids will love eating ice cream and pretending to be the House Speaker.

9) Surround your house with concertina wire and 25,000 national guardsmen for 9 months: If you want to be patriotic you’re going to have to leave those decorations up for the long haul. The razor wire will complement the Christmas lights you forgot to take down anyway.

10) Just go about your life like 99.9999999% of Trump supporters did last year: It's what Trump would have wanted.

Too much generalizing goes on I.e. I am a teacher, so I am out of touch. In reality I am still connected to the corporate world. And when I retire in a couple years, I will share some good stories of fighting the good fight, and not having to do it alone. Lots, maybe even a significant majority, of college teachers are liberal as FOX likes to point out, but there are enough of us Libertarians it would surprise guys like you. And I would argue that number is growing as more recognize the monumental failures of government. Thanks.

And it is possible for many folks to be concerned about more than one thing at a time. But that one thing was an attack on our Capitol and lawmakers. How anyone could give that a free pass and still consider themselves patriotic is beyond me.

Hopefully big penalties rack up for all involved, from people radicalized to action - whose lives have been destroyed - to those at the top who created the situation.

Exactly the case from Jan 2017- Jan 2021. But remember 'fool' is historically a political appointment.

The dem mob burnt and looted for a whole summer. People where murdered, businesses destroyed, police stations and a Federal courthouse torched. None of those arrested prosecuted.

Statues torn down, historical monuments vandalized, our history corrupted, freedom of speech, thought and opinion cancelled.

The real insurrection started in 2016 and it continues today.

If they'd worn BLM hats and waved BLM flags that day, they would be hailed as civil rights heroes, and January 6 would be declared a national holiday. There would be celebrations and parades all across the country in Dem cities, with a concert telethon tonight in L.A. featuring all the usual lefty entertainment suspects, to raise money for legal defense of the rioters still on trial.

Riots that basically are done to stop the legal functions of government are really bad and have different names - insurrection.

Now, if you riot and loot you should dang well be caught and prosecuted, fully. For what ever "cause" you are associated with.

So, my assumption 1.) is that while most here think it was a "good" riot for "good" reasons... You also 2.) believe those there were just about 700 (arrests so far if I recall correctly) bad apples, because they looted and stole from "us" and did fun stuff like poop on the floor and rub it on the walls, destroy property etc.

I posted for one reason. Too many try to marginalize a day that was the most disgraceful in my lifetime. I could care less about the congress investigations or what Trump said or did not say. Adult Americans, that knew better, broke into our most sacred buildings and desecrated it; disobeyed, demeaned, fought, and injured police; threatened the lives of public officials; attempted to stop our constitutional process; and, overthrow a duly elected government. Trump flags out numbered American flags and cops being beaten with an American flag with a blue strip (I can't get those images out of my head). Then some tried to blame their actions on others or even their own government. I wanted to say that I will never forget what I seen with my own eyes, what I hear with my own ears, and what I felt with my own heart that day watching the raw video as it happened. I can only sum it up as disgraceful and we should not forget what happened that day.

No, January 6th does not compare to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor (nor did I make any such comparison). It is not the same. Those were attacks on our country from the outside not by fellow Americans. 9/11 was not disgraceful but a sad and scary day for my country. Pearl Harbor was the same for my Grandfather based on all his stories about serving in the army and being at the Battle of the Bulge.

If the votes were not counted on January 6th as stated in the constitution it takes an act of congress to set a new date. What would happen if congress did not set a new date? Or set the date in January 2022. Who is president in 2021? This is constitutional territory we have not been in before. The result could be a constitutional crisis.

There are some bright signs...more independents are moving to the Repubs and Hispanic voters are as well. With Hispanics this was probably always inevitable as most are socially conservative and a good many are Catholic or Christian.

The Rittenhouse verdict was absolutely the right one, he should have never been charged IMO, but I say that with no legal training.

I am puzzled why the people who believe Ashley B was murdered think that. She failed to follow repeatedly lawful orders, and in the officer's mind he perceived her as a threat to his and others' safety. He eliminated the threat. If this were a black male in a BLM protest breaking thru the last line of defense in protecting innocent civilians would not most think lethal force would be warranted, armed or not? Should the officer have waited until AB broke thru, and others followed when they observed no repercussions for breaking thru? What would we say if that did occur, and some innocent civilians/congressmen and women were assaulted? We would be critical of the "coward" for failure to perform their sworn duty I bet.

I am asking sincerely. I go back to police shootings of minorities and all the defenders saying the officer felt threatened for themself or others. And I agree with that logic to use lethal force. Trump offered National Guard protection a day or two before. That is a fact, on public record. He needed either Pelosi or the DC mayor to approve it, which they refused to do, even after several warnings. Begs the question, why? But in TDS insanity..... I wonder what his fellow officers think? Reported yesterday how many have resigned or retired and I thought it might have something to do with them thinking like many officers nationwide that we just don’t have their backs anymore? No heightened sense of security with a rally happening? They had a fence up outide, why weren’t people shot for entering the building the way they did? Remember 9/11? There were armed guards in front of every fed building for quite some time, due to a heightened state of security. And why so many Cap Police suicides? Not to be disrespectful, but what did they experience or witness that caused them to take their own lives? What type of police force are they? I wonder if there were actually snipers in the area…if so, why? And who is Ray Epps and why isn’t he in custody?

I guess I am not totally ignorant, I wondered from day one why they just didn't pepper spray the entire group trying to push thru the door. And a bullet going anywhere makes a lot of sense as to why he should not have fired his weapon.

Still, the failure at the top to have made proper preparations when their intelligence said it could get bad, as a police officer in a situation like that they had to be shaking inside. I don't put all of the blame on him, not by a long shot! I feel bad for the family, I also feel terrible for the cop. He has to live with it. A number of his fellow officers have committed suicide, scores of retirements and resignations, they are still down 2-300 officers. This has not been widely reported, but WSJ has done a good job with it.

If the 1/6 riots were an act of "terrorism" - using force to achieve political ends - then so were the BLM riots.

The difference is that the latter were successful - and their success was a bloody disaster for Americans, especially black Americans.

The grotesque spectacle Democrats and their media are putting on today is not a condemnation of "terrorism," or "insurrection," or "attacking elections." They aren't planning to say a single damn word about the very recent times THEY did all of those things.

This is all about crass political opportunism, and reinforcing the claim that left-wingers have a monopoly on "righteous" political violence. When lefties use violence on YOU, it's "mostly peaceful" and you should stop whining and walk it off - even when they kill people.

I've never had any patience for rioters or political terrorists of any stripe, from Occupy Wall Street through BLM, Antifa, or the 1/6 crowd. NOBODY should think they can achieve political goals through violence and destruction - but that's not the America we live in, is it?

And only this one is supposed to reflect negatively on people who weren't at the Capitol on 1/6. Only this one was "caused" by political rhetoric. Only this one "justifies" speech controls and punitive political action against people who committed no crime.

The people running today's media and political circus events are much more aggressively, and effectively, using an act of violence to achieve political ends than the boobs who perpetrated that violence a year ago. The rioters didn't have a rational endgame. The opportunists do.

By all means, throw the book at EVERYONE who thinks they can impose their ideology by breaking the law - but we need to worry a lot more about the people writing the laws, and what they really think about political violence. They most certainly do not reject it entirely.

Flashback: In May 2020, mobs of far-left rioters tried to storm the White House. They were repelled by police, who were assaulted and hit with projectiles.

As I see it & as a proud AMERICAN from a military background the actions of Jan 6th were a complete embarrassment to this country. Now how the aftermath has been handled is most definitely up to discussion !!! But if in any way whatsoever you agree with what happened on that day I'd have to seriously question your __________ pick a word.

If you watch the video she was not the closest person too the officer. There were multiple people leaning against the doors. She was on the far side of the hallway and not up against the glass. When the pistol is pointed at the crowd from around the corner the guys in front appear to back down and warn others that he is pointing a gun. And he then shoots. In the video it appears he fired randomly into the crowd. Because she was no where near the largest threat.

So he either is a terrible shot and missed the man he was trying to shoot or was randomly shooting into a crowd. Both are poor choices. And why he should have been charged and gone to court to hash it out. So the others got charged with criminal trespassing and she got shot dead. Not equal justice. I’m sure he was scared and it was stupid for her to be there but being shot in the face is little more than she deserved.

What I don't agree with is how these politicians sat back on their asses and purposely did nothing during the prior riots and destruction of property in these cities. Sitting back on their asses was purposeful and calculated to undermine the current administration in place. They didn't back our commander and chief, they wanted to see him fail every step of the way. They did nothing to back the president purposely to satisfy their own agenda (which was to bring the president down). That is not a united front or anything that is good for this country. That to me is much worse than what happened on Jan 6. Sorry if you don't agree with that because it was the capitol. Again, I don't condone Jan 6, but I also don't condone the gross lack of support for the leadership while cities were being burned down.

Benghazi was investigated 8 times. If someone did something illegal that got those soldiers killed then send them to Leavenworth. Nobody was charged or convicted. Our constitutional process (congressional oversight) evidently ran its course. If government officials lied about it then impeach them.

You bring up a point I think that is a source of angst for many of us, that being the rioters at the Capitol are being treated more harshly than the violent felons in multiple cities during the summer of 2020. Some of the Capitol characters are still in jail.

This is where I think Ryan's logic makes sense, two wrongs don't make a right.

All of the criminals should be treated on equal footing, in an ideal world. Maybe the criminals at the Capitol are being treated harsher because of politics, but maybe it is simply because their prosecution falls within federal jurisdiction where the city felons can only be prosecuted by state or local agencies, many of these being run by democrats who have a reputation for being soft on crime. And we see that is coming back to bite them. Feds are more likely I am willing to bet to display a zero tolerance attitude.

We should prosecute all of them as harsh as possible to create a disincentive for similar future behavior. And it is curious how the press wants to call it an insurrection, but no one has been charged with that, I believe? Mostly all misdemeanors, right?

All of us have empathy for someone who faces a challenge that denies them a chance at normalcy. What I, and assume others are tired of, is rare conditions are being allowed to turn the world upside down to the point we spend ridiculous amounts of time and resources on issues like pronouns whereas that energy spent there could be spent on more important material such as math, critical thinking skills etc.
