I'm a little late getting started on this thread this year. It's been a weird year with very little snow, minus 40 one week to above freezing the next and of course dealing with dealing with all this Covid BS. I'm hoping this next year is going to get back to more normal. We were lucky enough to operate last fall at about 60% of normal. I'll post what had happened last trip and the try to keep it up to date from here on.
I love this every year thank you
Enjoy following along every year.
We have a pretty good stockpile of bait ready to go out, and we have already put out about 30,000 pounds of bait.
A few wolves from the last trip
A fresh wolf kill that we came across. We pulled it over to one of our other bait piles hoping the wolves will follow the sent trail to it. We'll find out on the next trip if they did.
I love this thread. I hear all sorts of theories and see myself seemingly random wolf population swings. If you don’t mind sharing, what has bee your total harvest each year? Has that been in line with your efforts for each year? What is your impression of the population based on sign and how it relates to the harvest level each year? Most importantly what have your observations been as far as ungulate populations as your wolf harvest continues. Also, have you noticed a change in grizzly or black bears? I know wolf predation on bears is a factor but with a lot of variables. Grizzly impact I would guess is hard to speak to since the all knowing Vancouver citizens decided killing a certain type of bear is mean.
Always look forward to this thread!

#LovinLife,
Robb
Your welcome Robb. Today started out checking a couple wolf and lynx sets. We had one snare pulled down but I think the lock must have been frozen and the wolf didn't get hung up. While we were resetting the snares the wolves were howling 300 yards or so behind the station. Hopefully they will be back.
The next set we got a nice cross fox in 330 and a marten in a 120.
This set had a Lynx in it but a wolverine came and ate it and destroyed the lynx pen
Last spot we checked today had this guy in it.
Beautiful Black Wolf for sure!
Robb
Fisher in a wolverine set
Just about every Fisher I've caught has had porcupine quills in it. You'd think there would be a easier food source for them
I always enjoy this thread. Thanks for the great pictures!
Love seeing the trapping pictures as I used to trap WAY back when I was in high school.
Not sure I understand this, but am I correct that the outfitter sets out their 'line and then you get to tag along to check it? Do you get to keep whatever is caught? Do you do any calling or sitting over bait as part of the adventure?
Intriguing to me. I had friends who used to listen to my trapping stories that would ask if they could go with me when it was time to check traps. Had several who tagged along once, but none that ever asked to go again. Not sure if it was the early morning departure to get things checked before school, the cold, or I was just that boring but I never had any return customers. ;-)
John we have a line already set out to check for when the client arrives. While here the client can help maintain the traps and make new sets. The client get to keep one of each species caught during the trip.
For the last day we spent the night before at one of the cabin's to hunt wolves over the bait. Before shooting light we could make out 11 wolves on the ice. Once shooting light came, one of the wolves was 250 yards and Steve made a perfect shot
The rest of the day went just as well.
Some awesome catches for sure!
One the guys shot shot this one yesterday morning over the bait at one of the cabin's
One of the best trips I've ever done, even though I was sick as a dog! My trip was in January of 2018. It was just great from day one. Thanks Jack and Lloyd, great job guys!
Looks like everything is going just fine!
Good luck, Robb
Everything has gone pretty good Robb. We got a few animal in the sets that we put out while you were here too.
The last guys left this morning. I went out and pulled the rest of the lynx sets that were out after they had left. It was too bad they couldn't still around for one more day because I got another lynx and could have shot a Lynx on one of the baits.
Thanks for sharing! Always a treat. Round round get around Robb gets around…
Thanks again Lloyd and family. We truly had an incredible Canadian adventure. We are on the long road home and I’ll share some more pictures when I get home.

Do you provide straight wolf hunts without the trapping. Just come up and take a couple wolf ? Rifle
Thanks for sharing! Always a treat. Round round get around Robb gets around…
You guys travel safe Kyle.
Remember keep that fuel tank full before the G-stations close for the night!!!!!~~ haha
After viewing/BluRay Llyod's vid's some of those Bear hunts/spot-n-stalk, I'm trying to get a spring hunt organized. Some 'uge Blackies for sure.
True That TJ!
Good luck, Robb
We have offered straight wolf hunts in the past but it's not as successful. Sitting for days over bait isn't much fun. That was why we started to offer the trapline with the trip.
There is still dates open for next winter if anyone is interested. January 12-17, February 1-6. February 10-16.
You can't go wrong going on this trip with Jack and Lloyd. I've been a lot of places and on a lot of trips and like I said before, this is right at the top of all of them.
Most of my snares are pulled now but I still have a few out in easy places to check
3 more coyotes and a wolf today
Memories for a lifetime!
Thanks again, Lloyd, Jack, Crystal and Jenn.
I gotta come up and get 1 of those 'uge spot-n-stalk Black bears!
Good luck, Robb
Jen and I are going to spend the night at one of the cabin's and maybe Jen will shoot a wolf in the morning. We got a few dogs on our way over.
Good luck Lloyd! Hope ya get a shot. Looks super fun!
Amazing that coyotes can survive in that region, amongst all the wolves.
Seen 3 on the moon light but they left 20 minutes before shooting light.
A few of the dogs since the last trip
These last 2 black ones I shot over bait
This guy is getting well fed on my bait stock pile
Jen just shot this one at one of the cabin's. Still a couple spots for next year open.
Way to go Jen. That’s just where I got mine. And I see one my other little friends in the photo too.
Can you use thermal scopes up there?
Good for Jen!
Congrats,
Robb
You can't use thermal scopes. Your shooting hours are 1 hour before sunrise to1 hour after sun set.
Ok thanks for your response Lloyd.... with or without thermal that looks like a great vacation!!
Congratulations Jen on and awesome animal and good shooting.
Thanks Matt, I seen your goat at the taxidermist and it looks great. That was definitely a trip to remember
Your welcome!! The couple pictures that he has sent me were amazing. Looking forward to seeing the finished work. Yes it was definitely a trip to remember and thank you for helping to make that happen.
Thanks for the chit-chat Lloyd.
She did (Vickie) get a hold of me out of Richmond/Vancouver area and it's nice to have her shipping my salted hides/skulls to me next week.
