It’s their deer stories. The supporting photos show elk, stags, and whatever this freak is above.

Surely someone at Fox News can find them a photo of an actual whitetail deer? Hell, I bet even fake news CNN can get this detail correct!

About 70-75 species and sub-species of deer around the world but we don't have that many in the US. If they can't get this right guess on how many other subjects they screw it up??

Roe buck.

The media and Hollywood always struggle with wild game ID. Recall Deniro's character in "The Deer Hunter", where one hunt scene alternates from a muley to elk to red stag. Set against the scenic backdrop of the "Rocky Mountains of Pennsylvania".

IMO, the article itself was worthless anyway.

I agree Pat, same stupid stag pic for any "deer" related story. Just read it this morning and that was my first thought, NOT A DEER.

I believe TBM called folks like that “concrete walkers”. There’s lots of stuff that they don’t know about the outdoors and even the world on the other side of that camera lens. On the other hand, I don’t know chit about NYC, except that I never want to go there. It evens out.

Even in CO people can't figure it out. Denver Post had an article about "mountain goats" with a photo of a bunch of bighorn ewes licking salt beside the road.

Some guy came to my house to buy an item and pointed at a big muley mount and said, "thats a nice longhorned sheep"

The deer pics bug me but I get they are likely urban interns picking them. The massive amount of typos isn't as easy to excuse. They should be as good as anyone with writing but there are constant spelling and typo mistakes.

From: t-roy

It’s not just the media that don’t have a clue. I’ve had non hunting relatives or friends come to the house, and they’ll point at my caribou and ask if that’s an elk, or some similar mixup like that. They aren’t stupid, it just not in their wheelhouse, but they’re also not in the media, either! I know it’s a stretch, but It’s kinda their jobs for the media to get their facts straight.

AS I remember that I think it was red stag

I think the mountain scenes were in Washington state near the BC border. Not sure how they let go a red stag in Washington. Or added a scene from New Zealand. I always liked that scene. they drive out of a Pennsylvania town and next thing you know there in 12,000 foot peaks

But... the real question is how would they do with Mexican birds?

From: Nick Muche
31-Jan-22
They'd probably mess that up too, Orion!

Perhaps you guys could consult with them. Make a few “bucks” identity a few bucks and “buck” up the bird identification!

A few years ago, I stopped into a Sports Clips for a hair cut while on vacation in Florida. The young tattooed lady who cut my hair was friendly, but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She seemed intrigued when I told her I was from Colorado, and was an avid big game hunter. At one point she asked me, "Are the males the elks, and are the females the deers?" I decided to change the subject to tattoos.

Went along on an antelope hunt in Nevada once. Only one of three of us had a tag. It was more of a party in the desert, the hunt was an excuse to be there. Opening morning we all set out to find some antelope. Not much was seen bye two of us. But, the other guy, who, hadn’t done a whole lotta hunting. Bragged about all the huge antelope he saw! Big, sweeping horns on em! Just stood and watched him drive bye on his quad. We ate lunch at a bar that afternoon, and my buddy said, I bet that’s what so and so saw today, pointing at a picture of a bunch of California Bighorn sheep ewes. The next day we rode up to the sweet spot and that’s what they were. Ha.

The quality of Journalism has gone steadily downhill in my lifetime. Networks are increasingly playing partisan politics, another negative and FOX is no different.

Fox is not the worst by a longshot. Check CNN and MSNBC and you won’t see the free flowing influx of migrants and drugs coming in along the mexican border. Recently they confiscated enough Fentanyl to kill everyone in the US…or the bussing and flying of these unvaxxed immigrants around the country, etc.

On CNN you dont see; The many Police Officers getting ambushed. The car jackings The massive crime wave sweeping all of the Dem run big cities The growing homeless crisis affecting big cities where the Dem admins keep throwing Billions at the problem and its just getting worse.

News networks are an important check and balance in our system…and many partisan networks are just giving these politicians a free pass.

Every time I had 1st-hand knowledge of something that made the news, the news, local or national has missed some relevant point, or gotten it so wrong they shouldn't have bothered running the piece. Doesn't even have to be some left/right slant thing. I think the reporter's hair/makeup/wardrobe is the highest priority.

Interesting update on partisan news media today as the tide may be turning.

The NYT has been in bed with the Democrats for years but now they are suing the Biden administration for information on family dealings - and specifically Hunter- in Eastern Europe.

The white house reply:

“While the request was sent in December 2021, the Biden Administration told the Times that the soonest that it could possibly turn over the information is April 15, 2023. That is after the mid-term elections.”

This story could be a bit awkward for the White House staff.

When the New York Times Ken Vogel wrote about Hunter Biden’s dealings as a potential “significant liability,” Biden officials viciously attacked him while others suggested that he was a pawn of Russian or Trump disinformation.

Good story but FNC should give credit to some of the folks who carried the rating for them for many years. Greta, Bill O', etc.

''Media Published 10 mins ago

Fox News becomes first cable news network to finish No. 1 for 20 straight years with dominant start to 2022"

More deserving news....

"Fox News became the No.1 cable news network among total viewers in wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks in January 2002 and has remained No. 1 ever since, keeping the top spot for two decades.

Fox News finished January by crushing CNN and MSNBC viewership combined among both total day and primetime viewers for the sixth straight month. Fox News was also the only cable news network to show year-over-year viewership growth, while MSNBC and CNN both had enormous declines, shedding nearly three quarters of their audiences apiece."

Trigger warning: Opinion follows that has like.... lots of words.....

What "news" people have become is actors auditioning for a movie role. More and more just talking heads. They actually see themselves as living some movie and they are the star. It's the chase for fame and money. Sports people who actually hate sports and athletes are auditioning to be news people.... and so on.....

What is very interesting is how fast things are changing WRT the internet, podcasts, channels and such. Broadcast is fading fast, yuge clumsy orgs with massive budgets. Being outworked and "scooped" by fast moving independents working on tiny fractions of a bootstrap budget... who are doing the work they love that the superstars used to. And in many cases now have access to reach as many or more people than the establishment. If all one watches is broadcast..... broadcast is 100% state/global corp propaganda. Cable/satellite is falling like a brick. "Cable" is being used more for internet and streaming than as a box with tv channels. The flat screen on the wall essentially a recliner laptop with a giant screen. We canceled out Dish a few years ago. Never missed it, stream what we want when we want and do so for half the cost. Millions and millions doing the same.

World on it's head as you see what has happened to the "anti-establishment" I grew up with. When news at least made some effort at truth and facts, went after unethical and illegal, the bigger the better. Tracked down and INVESTIGATED stories like Watergate, etc. no matter where they led. And Neil Young and such who protested against government and corps..... now are owned by them. Scared to step outside their groupthink. Fear, both societal virtue signaling and professional/occupational fear, has consumed them. Owns them.

Now it's Joe Rogan, Tim Pool and others who are doing the fearless work. The pendulum is swinging past these establishment/corporate/deep state drones... they see it and it's killing them. Biggest buzzword they use now is "misinformation". Meaning.... stating things we do not approve of and are outside our OFFICIAL narrative. They have no problem with misinforming anyone or even telling outright lies. See: Russian collusion, Covington boys, Biden laptops, Ukrainian deals, mostly peaceful protests, Jan 6th LEOs beaten to death with fire extinguishers... the list of lies in just the last few years is miles long. Telling lies doesn't matter to these people, not in the least. It's simply things they don't want talked about they call "misinformation". The official state/global corp narrative..... they themselves have become nothing but hypocritical propaganda. Then whine and complain when people no longer trust them to speak truth and facts... ALL truth and facts, unfiltered through race and class or politics. They know this, what is upsetting is they now know you know this and are losing control of it. And the fear grips them as the only play they have in their book is double down on lies and censorship. They see it as their only "safe" play. Denial. Evasion.

Establishment parties face off and evolve, republican neocons quickly being replaced by populists for the people. Leftist/socialist/communists make their play for domination in the dems. Fluid evolution. That can only be a good thing.... IF FACTS AND RESULTS OF IDEOLOGICAL GOALS AND ACTIONS are made public and open for discussion. See: defund police, open borders, etc. Independent free thinking rational, hard working people are what make this country what it is. They are who will bring it back and keep it strong.

Those in "power" right now are trending exactly the opposite. Silence. Censor. Dumb down the public as much as possible. And allow idiots who are clueless about that they are claiming control of to continue unchallenged. Like these "hunting" editorials. Or anti-gun people who barely have a grasp of which end the bullet comes out from, spouting unchallenged rhetoric. Emotion (fear) driving the narrative and facts go in the ditch. Without the independents and internet able to go past them directly to the public and unfiltered by the establishment.... we'd lose the battle quickly.

IMO the ability to go around the walls and barricades of the establishment is going to be key to freedom and prosperity. One of the reasons they hate Trump..... he tweeted right past them. MOCKED them..... and the pretentious self important virtue signalers HATE mockery. That's why the left is so horrible at MEMEs. MEMEs make fun of and laugh at what the egocentric and pretentious hold most sacred. Themselves. Spotlighting the absurdities of the views they hold with humor, rather than try to censor and silence them with nonsensical buzzwords such as "misinformation" "fascist" "racist" and a dozen kinds of "phobes". Making serious accusations.... provably false.... is always a losing last gasp defense.

Bottom line IMO, Independents are where the next battles for hearts and minds will be won or lost. If all you see is broadcast/establishment.... you're not misinformed... you are uninformed.
