Any advice on prepping a swizzle stick? Just boil the sinew off and set in the sun? I just don't want to screw it up. Thanks!

Not an issue really. Same as skull. Leave both attached to raw hide.

I thought a swizzle stick was what Hawkeye used to stir his drinks on MASH! That’s a new one to me in terms of hunting!

Technically it is illegal to bring a Black Bear Baculum (Penis bone) into the United States from Canada. In June 2019 I had one taken from me at the Emerson / Pembina crossing (Manitoba) when a casual inspection noticed it in a plastic bag in my cooler with my bear skin. I think there may have been some special searching program on that spring where they were looking for any and all such items. I know a number of folks who have brought them into the U.S. from Canada without problems over the years. My Canadian outfitter was not aware of the issue.

Creating an issue that is not there. If you remove the swizzle when skinning then there is an issue. LEAVE SWIZZLE on raw or fresh hide?? What your saying is that it's illegal to bring a hide of a male bear with junk attached... Don't be rediculous!!

Why would that be illegal to bring back if you can bring meat, hide, skull?

I once was driving through the border and when asked what I had to declare, I told him as best and straight forward what exactly it was I wanted to bring home. He just shook his head and told me to just get moving.

When I declared that I had a bear skull in a cooler I was immediately quizzed by customs about whether I was trying to bring across a bear penis bone. They double checked my cooler to make sure that I was being truthful. I thought it was humorous at the time.

According to the Ontario website a CITES tag is required for a baculum to be exported. https://www.ontario.ca/document/ontario-hunting-regulations-summary/black-bear

It says that a CITIES is not required for the head and claws if attached to hide. Bear penis is part of the hide if not detached from hide.
***BUT, wytex, you are correct "IF" detached from hide, cleaned and boiled. Also need a Cities for skinned out skull that is cleaned and boiled.
Gall bladder has to stay with the gut pile. Cannot detach from liver.
So, do not detach the skull, claws or penis. We actually had this discussion last week in camp.

As someone said; just ask them to pretend you are at the southern border and the cooler is full of heroin and fentanyl not bear parts
