The crappie measured 19 inches and was thick. Didn't weigh her, threw her back after some pics. 6 spines indicated a white but there is speculation it is a hybrid with some black genetics. But yes, she was a monster!

The oldest is holding him in these pics. He's 6'1 and can palm a basketball easily. When it's tail fin was spread it covered his hand with room to spare.

I've got to get up north someday and have someone teach me how to catch trout and walleye. Those look like a blast guys!

Earlier in the day I had 33 walleyes on my 360 at one time. That was a fun day of fishing caught 60 walleyes and when the fourth and finally one for the limit went into the box it was time to head in for the day.

From: Michael

12 yards,

I like it a lot. There isn’t one thing about the boat.

Sometimes I wished I had gone bigger (current boat is 18.5’) and a full windshield instead of my dual console but then it wouldn’t fit in my garage. As it is now with the motor up against the back wall and the tongue folded in there is only 8” to spare.

The fold down twin seat in the back is a nice accessory. The wife likes lounging back there. When I take my dad with he likes the added deck space with it folded down.

They come standard with a custom EZ loader bunk trailer. Between the design of the hull and the trailer loading is a breeze. Cross current or waves and it still loads perfect every time.

Here is a side view of how it sits in the water. It doesn’t ride terribly high in the water but it’s not as low as a bass boat.

I regret not getting any fish pics, but we were catching them so fast and the skiff was a bit rickety, but my youngest asked me to teach her to surf so I took her to Sayulita, Mexico over spring break.

Between days surfing (and she got it on the last day. Seeing your daughter stand up on her first wave and seeing the look on her face afterwards is an amazing thing), we took a day to take a skiff out through the surf for a day of fishing and caught dorado, amberjack, and skipjack (pictured) all day long with just the two of us, the captain, and the deck hand on the boat. It was an amazing day that we’ll never forget.

I’ve definitely considered it. Have several good bowhunting buddies that I fish a lot with and occasionally we get together for hunts. Fully intend to spend more time fishing with a number of bowsiters when the opportunity arises! For the most part, there are a bunch of great people on the bowsite!

I quit taking fish pics some years ago unless the fish is truly spectacular. Guess I need to start to stay in the game, lol! I've hosted a number of Bowsiters at the big private trout fishery I manage in NoCo. If anybody is coming to the Fort Collins area and can spare a few hours, the invitation is always open if I'm available. I have two annual guest passes.

Fished one of the streams below my house this morning and caught more than 30 wild browns, plus a few fat brookies, on dries. Did not see another fisherman. A good morning in the woods!

Hey all, haven't done much fly fishing for trout so maybe you guys could help me out. My son and I are heading to Vail Colorado next week for a week long baseball tournament. We are camping right outside of Vail at Gore Creek and plan on squeezing in some fly fishing in between ballgames. I bought a couple fly rods and he's (14 year old) been practicing out in the yard for the past couple weeks. Not sure I've ever caught a trout on a fly rod so really looking forward to giving it a try. I was told to try San Jaun worms under a float so we got some of those. Any other suggestions for what to use? Thanks in advance. Bryan

From: Scoot

Tavis, muskies get a lot of those open sores during spawning. I've also been told that they frequently carry an infection that results in open sores. The ones that hang around shallow structure also seem to get them more than the ones that are caught out in open water away from anything that can ding them up.

Ksboy,

Used to live there and fished a lot. Even guided fly fishing trips for one of the shops there. My advice would be to do a 1/2 day wade trip the first day you can that you are there. Then DIY. The 1/2 day guided trip will give you a year of experience otherwise tried by just doing DIY. You'll also be able to have them fill you fly box with flies that will work on the local rivers for specifically when you are there. Sorry I don't have any recommendations for shops as I haven't lived there for a while.

There are plenty of smaller hungry fish just downstream of where you'll be camped. The dry fly action should be heating up when you get there especially the last hour of light.

Keep your food bear proof as many a bear has gotten a meal at the Gore Creek Campground. :)

From: Scoot
11-Jul-22
Pete, prop scars can definitely happen, but are actually really pretty rare. The ones we catch on Lake of the Woods are not prop scars for sure. They are open sores and not the cause of something really violent like a boat prop.

Bryan, you can probably have plenty of fun with just a hopper /stimulator pattern. The fish are definitely looking up for hoppers, beetles, and caddis. Maybe tie in a small nymph like a hare’s ear or pheasant tail behind it for hopper-dropper fishing.

Ksboy, Gore creek can be really fickle, so I would suggest going down to the Eagle river. I've done well there in July, both upstream and downstream of the highway intersection, on a hopper/caddis/stimulator with a size 16 flashback pheasant tail on a 12" dropper. Had a great morning upstream last time I fished it in July. Lots of public access. Go into one of the fly shops in Vail and ask them for suggestions, and buy a few flies. Good luck and have fun!

Ha, Jaq, it may have been, we didn’t get her to the boat to confirm.

It’s a Mako, the captain guessed 900-1000, and it was by far the biggest one we saw in 3 days. Got a good arrow in it, but after over 2 hours it jumped and got against the mono and broke me off.

So the outfitter provided gear. I wish I had brought my own. At least my bow. I think the critical mistake was the steel leaders were a little short. Live and learn I guess.

Beautiful trout, Jim. How have the flows on the Gunny been?

My home stretch of the CO River is usually around 1500 cfs this time of year, which is ideal for fishing. Anything under 1000 gets a little bony in the rapids for a hard-sided drift boat. It’s around 700, now.

With so much awesome fishing and fishermen on the bowsite, maybe Pat needs to set up a Bowsite Fishing Forum…

Obviously, bowhunting and fishing go hand in hand :-)

Tavis, this is a political forum. I'm surprised the mods haven't taken this fishing thread down!

Went out with my son-in-law to meet some friends of his that would helicopter in for a few days fishing. Which meant my wife and I could heli back over eighty miles of coastline. Two days to get out and an hour to get back. Coho we’re thick and we got our 16 limit in two short sessions casting with light trout rods. It was a blast!!

Wow Rod! That looks like one heck of an adventure for fishing! Would love to do something like that someday...

Lou,

Some of those pictures clearly indicate blood and death being inflicted... Not to mention the over the top debate over catch and release vs. catch and eat! Yup, surprised the moderators haven't pulled this one down!!

That last pictures upside down! Just kidding. Saw you post about turning them. Salmon and light rods equal much fun.

Great pics here!! It takes a while for the whole thread to load up on my phone. With any luck I’ll be able to join in this weekend!
