The crappie measured 19 inches and was thick. Didn't weigh her, threw her back after some pics. 6 spines indicated a white but there is speculation it is a hybrid with some black genetics. But yes, she was a monster!
Coondog are the blues in thick down there?? Been a while since they made a good run up here near the Merrimack. Love to get into a bunch of gators like that.
MA-PA, the reports have been really good this year. You just gotta hit it right when the schools move through. I will be headed back there on Saturday to try my luck again.
The oldest is holding him in these pics. He's 6'1 and can palm a basketball easily. When it's tail fin was spread it covered his hand with room to spare.
I've got to get up north someday and have someone teach me how to catch trout and walleye. Those look like a blast guys!
When I met my wife she wouldn’t dare touch a fish. Now this last weekend she catches a nice fish and wants to learn how to hold it so she can have her picture taken.
A little earlier out our pond over 2 lbs she was released but just such impressive fish and I have taken huge marlin, tarpon on fly and just about everything that swims but this fish really touched me guess I’m just getting old good luck all and great pictures great thread Lewis
Not your typical fish picture but there is 8 walleyes in it.
Earlier in the day I had 33 walleyes on my 360 at one time. That was a fun day of fishing caught 60 walleyes and when the fourth and finally one for the limit went into the box it was time to head in for the day.
April trip out of Morehead City NC. It was a beautiful day right up until we dropped an engine 60 miles out and then had an electrical fire while working on the motor. Took us 6.5 hours to get back in.
That’s another one on the bucket list… big head fishing with Beav! Work got in the way this year, dang it!
And gotta say thanks again to Hunt Man for pointing me in the right direction for the steelhead! Caught two on two consecutive casts that day just going out to check it out. Hell, my buddy that lives right there didn’t know there were steelhead like that in the river that time of year!
Colorado, lake wading, #10 Prince Nymph, 23 inch, 7 pounds. Lost two others to the weeds. Wow, boys and girls, Nicely done. What's for dinner????????????? My best, Paul
I second JohnMC! Lol. Our fish fries happen over the winter during ice fishing. We don’t typically eat bass from open water they tend to get mushy here. But Iced over bass, perch and crappie are all delicious!
Releasing in grease tonight y’all come on treeline don’t look now but you have a fly Rod impaled in your head lol great fish btw a lot of great pictures keep it up good luck Lewis
I like it a lot. There isn’t one thing about the boat.
Sometimes I wished I had gone bigger (current boat is 18.5’) and a full windshield instead of my dual console but then it wouldn’t fit in my garage. As it is now with the motor up against the back wall and the tongue folded in there is only 8” to spare.
The fold down twin seat in the back is a nice accessory. The wife likes lounging back there. When I take my dad with he likes the added deck space with it folded down.
They come standard with a custom EZ loader bunk trailer. Between the design of the hull and the trailer loading is a breeze. Cross current or waves and it still loads perfect every time.
Here is a side view of how it sits in the water. It doesn’t ride terribly high in the water but it’s not as low as a bass boat.
I regret not getting any fish pics, but we were catching them so fast and the skiff was a bit rickety, but my youngest asked me to teach her to surf so I took her to Sayulita, Mexico over spring break.
Between days surfing (and she got it on the last day. Seeing your daughter stand up on her first wave and seeing the look on her face afterwards is an amazing thing), we took a day to take a skiff out through the surf for a day of fishing and caught dorado, amberjack, and skipjack (pictured) all day long with just the two of us, the captain, and the deck hand on the boat. It was an amazing day that we’ll never forget.
I’ve definitely considered it. Have several good bowhunting buddies that I fish a lot with and occasionally we get together for hunts. Fully intend to spend more time fishing with a number of bowsiters when the opportunity arises! For the most part, there are a bunch of great people on the bowsite!
T-roy Arizona has an amazing diversity of fishing opportunities… I caught my first grayling, pike, Apache trout and Gila trout there also some of my favorite smallmouth fishing is in Arizona…. Crazy to even consider!
Swapping fishing trips would be a blast. Been a little bit for me but fishing for bluefins and sharks up here in the north east should be picking up nicely right about now!
Bigswivle that’s all ya need for some delicious bluefin too ;). Then save the belly for the Smoker…..yum!
I quit taking fish pics some years ago unless the fish is truly spectacular. Guess I need to start to stay in the game, lol! I've hosted a number of Bowsiters at the big private trout fishery I manage in NoCo. If anybody is coming to the Fort Collins area and can spare a few hours, the invitation is always open if I'm available. I have two annual guest passes.
Fished one of the streams below my house this morning and caught more than 30 wild browns, plus a few fat brookies, on dries. Did not see another fisherman. A good morning in the woods!
Tonight's end game part deux with the lakers from a couple of days ago. This time there is tater salad. For the coating I used Slap Yo Mama and Italian bread crumbs. For the seasoning it's lemon herb (no pepper) and adobe seasoning. Same sauce as last time....Ken's Sweet Vidalia Onion dressing.
That porgies on the grill is interesting! Do ya just gut them then grill them? I might try that with some sheepsheads this winter when I get back down to Florida.
Some great fish and pics guys! Who knew there were grayling in AZ! And thought I knew every type of trout until I heard about Apache and Gila trout....................
That crappie is AMAZING! I didn’t know they got that big either. We got into some at a buddy’s farm pond in Western Pa this Spring, but a little smaller than Catscratch’s! ;-)
Hey all, haven't done much fly fishing for trout so maybe you guys could help me out. My son and I are heading to Vail Colorado next week for a week long baseball tournament. We are camping right outside of Vail at Gore Creek and plan on squeezing in some fly fishing in between ballgames. I bought a couple fly rods and he's (14 year old) been practicing out in the yard for the past couple weeks. Not sure I've ever caught a trout on a fly rod so really looking forward to giving it a try. I was told to try San Jaun worms under a float so we got some of those. Any other suggestions for what to use? Thanks in advance. Bryan
We get out on lake Erie quite a bit. Awesome fishery. This was myself, my two nephews and my brother. We were casting weight forward spinners that morning
Used to live there and fished a lot. Even guided fly fishing trips for one of the shops there. My advice would be to do a 1/2 day wade trip the first day you can that you are there. Then DIY. The 1/2 day guided trip will give you a year of experience otherwise tried by just doing DIY. You'll also be able to have them fill you fly box with flies that will work on the local rivers for specifically when you are there. Sorry I don't have any recommendations for shops as I haven't lived there for a while.
There are plenty of smaller hungry fish just downstream of where you'll be camped. The dry fly action should be heating up when you get there especially the last hour of light.
Keep your food bear proof as many a bear has gotten a meal at the Gore Creek Campground. :)
Bryan, you can probably have plenty of fun with just a hopper /stimulator pattern. The fish are definitely looking up for hoppers, beetles, and caddis. Maybe tie in a small nymph like a hare’s ear or pheasant tail behind it for hopper-dropper fishing.
Scoot.....I have been Sabaskong at LOW for over 40 years. Caught a lot of muskies with round red sores. The pictured fish has a slash like a prop. Got a few of those too but not common. Maybe 3 in over 50 years fishing. Probably most that get hit do not survive.
Ksboy, Gore creek can be really fickle, so I would suggest going down to the Eagle river. I've done well there in July, both upstream and downstream of the highway intersection, on a hopper/caddis/stimulator with a size 16 flashback pheasant tail on a 12" dropper. Had a great morning upstream last time I fished it in July. Lots of public access. Go into one of the fly shops in Vail and ask them for suggestions, and buy a few flies. Good luck and have fun!
Ha, Jaq, it may have been, we didn’t get her to the boat to confirm.
It’s a Mako, the captain guessed 900-1000, and it was by far the biggest one we saw in 3 days. Got a good arrow in it, but after over 2 hours it jumped and got against the mono and broke me off.
So the outfitter provided gear. I wish I had brought my own. At least my bow. I think the critical mistake was the steel leaders were a little short. Live and learn I guess.
Caught this boy on a bubblegum leech today. Damn near wore his tail off during the spawn up in the river. Cool, weird fish that are real finicky and fight hard.
From this morning's trip. Another beautiful sunrise!! Caught two small lakers and put them back. Salmon season is starting to pick up in our local bays.
My Oklahoma buddy’s granddaughters and their cousins had a whale of a day, noodling on a small river, the other day. They came back with all their fingers and toes, as well….
Beautiful trout, Jim. How have the flows on the Gunny been?
My home stretch of the CO River is usually around 1500 cfs this time of year, which is ideal for fishing. Anything under 1000 gets a little bony in the rapids for a hard-sided drift boat. It’s around 700, now.
After working on the new-to-me boat all spring and early summer, I finally took my wife to the salt for some sunshine, hot springs and a little fishing. Fishing sucked and I now have more work to do on the boat.
Well......a whale of a fish tale. I've been laying back in my small boat in Florida and had small 3'- 4' manta rays jump next to the boat. Scare the crap outta ya. I can't top this one though.
Took my little grandniece down to the creek below my house this weekend. She caught her first fish. It was just a little creek chub, but she was both excited and a bit apprehensive, as well. Brought back some good memories for me. I spent thousands of hours, running up and down that creek as a little kid, catching chubs, frogs and lots of other critters.
JL, that first lake is North Fork Resevoir just out of Estacada OR.
Seeing pictures of Bowsite members with realy young kids doing outdoor activities had me excited when I found out I was going to be a dad. She has been out and about doing outdoor stuff with me constantly since she was a month old. All the posts i have seen over the all the years had me doing stuff with her WAY sooner than I ever would have thought to do. At only two years old now, she loves hiking, fishing, camping, and going to the archery range.
Awesome thread, too many cool pics to mention. Treeline's glow in the dark fly fishing is something else. Hard enough to get it right in broad daylight haha.
Put sixteen sockeye in the freezer for smoking later. One more very short trip out for halibut and a pleasure cruise this week. Then “fishing” for elk.
Remote creek full of cutthroats. Not sure any of them have ever seen a fly. Had to climb down a steep ravine and bushwack through a lot of deadfall and thick vegetation. But it was worth it. Nobody for miles.
Went out with my son-in-law to meet some friends of his that would helicopter in for a few days fishing. Which meant my wife and I could heli back over eighty miles of coastline. Two days to get out and an hour to get back. Coho we’re thick and we got our 16 limit in two short sessions casting with light trout rods. It was a blast!!
Wow Rod! That looks like one heck of an adventure for fishing! Would love to do something like that someday...
Lou,
Some of those pictures clearly indicate blood and death being inflicted... Not to mention the over the top debate over catch and release vs. catch and eat! Yup, surprised the moderators haven't pulled this one down!!
