Treeline, indeed that will work. Is that Ryan Gill's work by chance? Certainly looks like his fine craftsmanship.

TL....just curious....is that considered a legal broadhead? I know some states are funny if the head has anything resembling "barbs" or a non-forward angling back-end of the BH. Other than that....nice looking work.

Yes sir, Pete… Ryan makes the absolute best contextual primative points and arrows I have ever seen. Killed my antelope with one last year… worked extremely well!

Some states allow them and some do not. My home state is one that is wonky about them, even though not a one of us would be here if this kind of point did not work…

From: Pete-pec
01-Aug-22
You are exactly right Treeline, about where we are, because of where we've been. That broadhead will kill a bison as well, but it must be said. If you have an opportunity to put a second arrow in an animal, you must take it. I've talked with him myself. One of the most humble students and teachers of primitive hunting. I will eventually buy an orange Osage bow from him, and get back to my roots. I will also be shooting his arrows and heads. He's a great asset to what paleo hunting was like, and how things likely were, when nothing was written in a book or broadcasted for everyone to see. Do you own one of his bows as well?

RT - it and it’s mates were made to be run through critters… I fully intend to ensure their purpose is fulfilled!

For modern broadheads off my “modern” laminated longbow, I will be using grain 3-blade VPA or Cutthroats…

Iron Wills for me. Require no tuning from my setup, and every animal I've shot with them has died in sight. Lots of very good heads out there. I used original Muzzy 3 and 4 blade 125s for decades (was Muzzy Pro Staffer #1). But the new ones don't seem to be the same, IMO.

10 guys 10 heads 20 guys, 20 heads. I've used some model 125 gr Rocky Mountain 3 blade over 45 years now. Elk, Caribou, Black Bears, many a whitetails & Mule Deer + abunch of hogs & even a Buffalo thrown in.. Many on the market that are great.. Regardless of the head, I say find a good 3 blade. I shot an Elk with 53# stick bow & 3 blade Rocky Mountain 125 grs many years ago & it did great. Complete pass thru 35 yds. Currently Ironhead.

From: Ucsdryder

Most of them work great. I’ve had great luck with magnus, sevr, exodus, and German kinetic. I don’t think you can go wrong with a well known head. No reason to spend 35-40 dollars a head, they’re elk, they die easy when you put it in the boiler room.

I’ve had great luck the past two seasons with Solid Legends 125G but find them way too delicate for the price, going with 125 Iron Will vented this year, they seem way more durable. I don’t mind paying a premium price but expect premium quality.

When I pay $40 a piece for broadheads, they better be doing a whole lot more than my four blade Slick Tricks do. I bought them on clearance for under $10 per three pack. And by the way, they fly very consistent with my field points.

Shoot your broadhead into a target and see if it’s still sharp after? If not, don’t use it. It simulates how many heads can’t even maintain sharpness when they go through the entrance side on a deer. They certainly shouldn’t be used on a tough elk. Iron Will has some great testing videos they have done on this.

I should add that many broadheads are dull right out of the package, lots of hunters don’t even check, never mind after going through just a hide.

From: Whatthefoc
18-Aug-22
Bingo Mike … ^^^^^ I shot 125 Montecs for many years, but no matter how sharp I could get them before the shot, they were dull as a butter knife after one trip thru a critter.

To all the $5 bullet guys … please don’t hate me because I use an expensive broadhead. :)
