I have a first archery tag in 16D this year. It looks like the unit has been getting a good bit of rain, possibly a little earlier than normal. Has anyone seen or heard reports of the antler growth?

I have been watching my friends cell camera from his ranch in one of the surrounding units and it looks pretty good this year.

I don't have any info on antler growth, but I have hunted that unit. It was a fun hunt. Saw a couple great bulls, killed a decent one. Good luck to you and congratulations on a great tag!!!

Moisture is fine now, Altitude. Just a question of what it will be then. Usually plenty during archery season. Blessing and curse. Does your friend live in the area?

No sorry, he is in Michigan with me.

Had a 16D tag in the late 1990's. Every one I talked too said go high. Spent the first week and saw nothing. Slept in one morning and as I was headed to the high country spotted elk all at lower elevation. Was camped at Apache Creek.

A few miles from my house. These elk really are liking the monsoon rains.

Hope it’s hitting 16e too. My 10yr old has a rifle tag.

Hunted this Unit many, many times. family has killed many big bulls here. in the early hunt if you want a big one hunt the most remote area you can find and locate the tanks in that area. these big bulls hang tight until about Septembers 10 and than all hell breaks lose. it is a great Hunt any way you cut it.

Saw a group of 19 really good looking balls four of them really look great they’re just over the border in 16E this week. Also knocked around 16 D a bit chasing antelope.

The grass is lush tall and green everything‘s been wet for a while I would think the tail end of the antler growth should be stellar

My contact there says recent moisture very good, bulls looking good. Had that tag in 2019,great hunt but steep and rough where I hunted. Tough on a sea level guy in mid 60’s..harder than 16a and certainly 15. Be in shape. Found good bulls everywhere but had to leave early due to family illness issue. Heartbreaker. You have a fantastic tag in a great unit, go have a blast!

Thanks guys! I’m imagine the moisture will have the elk spread out pretty good.. and sounds like all the tanks will be full. I hope we get some seasonably cool weather. The full moon hitting on the 10th isn’t going to do us any favors.
