It’s been several years now since caribou shut down in Quebec. This time of year my best remembrances are the times I hunted with JHA. Fortunate to have had those opportunities and to have met and hunted with some great guys. The reason for this post though is to say thank you to Jack, Richard and Amanda for making all that possible. I know you landed on your feet following the closure - happy for that but not surprised. Your work ethic and dedication and just being down to earth folks gave many of us amazing times on the tundra. Memories for life. Thanks.

Coursoulles was one of the two places I never made it. Very very sad.

I was lucky enough to make it to 4 of the five pictured. Willies, Trophy, inukshuk and did a good stint at Bobby’s. Ikirtuuq is the only one I never made. Spent time in King and camp 6 as well.

I never hunted with them but met Richard at Harrisburg a couple of times at the JHA table. Very nice conversation. Sure hope things open up someday.

Great memories indeed. I just went and looked up my paperwork from a JHA hunt I was on. It was from 8/26/97-9/1/97 on the Pon's River, it was called a Deluxe #3 hunt. We had a guide for 6 hunters and meals included for $3300. At that time, my wife went thru the roof, I look at that now and laugh, my new John Deere lawn mower just cost me $3300! I'm looking at my shoulder mount now and feel blessed to have experienced a great hunt and wonderful people. I know the Hume's provided me with memories of a lifetime and for that I'm truly thankful.

As a side note, I took a nice bull with JHA, but couldn't afford a mount. My neighbor booked a hunt with NORPAQ in 2005, had a friend cancel and asked me if I wanted to go in his place. I jumped on it and took a double shovel beast on that hunt, definitely found the money for a mount, however when I look at this mount, the JHA hunt always dominates my thoughts. It's not about taking an animal; it was the Hume's way of treating you like family that sticks with me.

What are the Humes doing now that there is no caribou hunting? Do they still take clients up there for the fishing?

Well, glad to hear they are still able to offer something.
I went in 2005 with another outfitter and had a tough but memorable hunt.
Always heard great things about JHA and actually saw and got to talk with Richard at the Harrisburg show one year. Seemed like great people! I wish them all the best!

I kick myself all the time for not going on this hunt when it was still open. Opportunity missed.

Rod they’re offering something but they had to buy a different place in Labrador to do it I don’t think that the outfitters were able to monetize much of anything in those camps that got mothballed.
The camp guys that last year were saying that the cost of getting equipment out of there was far more than it was worth so it was just gonna stay there with you if it’s true I’m kind of surprised from an environmental perspective they were allowed to do that
That last season we knew they were shutting down starting in 2018 and that was gonna be all she wrote when they flew out for the last time in 2017

The camps are being slowly dismantled, Richard has been doing that in the summers. Atleast he was last I knew. The government was paying to have them dismantled

I went twice. Two of the greatest hunts I ever had. Took 4 caribou with my longbow. Farthest shot, about 35 yards. Closest, 3 yards. TMBB
