Thanks so much for all the kind words.
I really think this is worthy of starting another thread.
If you remember, after I shot my moose, I was due to fly out the very next day.
Due to high winds and rain, all flights where grounded, and I received word at the dock.
In the boat we go, headed south and as we get to the moth of the river south, where the “ Old Boat” location was, we spotted a cow and calf and a stud of a bull.
Dave shut down the motor and starts calling to him.
He responded and heads right for us in the boat.
The next few pics are of him, walking right to us, and ending up a mere 18 yards from me.
Now here is where I truly realized I had a great guide.
He called the outfitter and asked when would be the earliest his new hunter could be there? He told them about the giant bull.
They told him not until tomorrow.
So the clock moves on and Dave is concerned that bull may be long gone….. or not.
The plane is on its way.
Once we where at the dock, I hear the plane and my hunt is officially over.
The plane is docked and out walks the next hunter, a nice guy from Switzerland, originally from South Africa.
I tell him he’s in good hands, we load all the meat and my gear and it’s so long to Dave and a dream hunt.
Dave explains to him they may have a chance at the bull, and I show him the video I had taken before we take off.
The hunter had to wait 6 hours before hunting but Dave was determined to kill that bull and he was chomping at the bit!!!
I’m told they went out that afternoon, a mile south on the river, where we stopped on a gravel bar.
He called a few times, the giant walked right and and the hunter leveled him with his rifle.
Just wow. Amazing .
he shot.
if that was his only moose "hunt" he hasn't moose hunted.
Nick I’m not sure but I’m hopeful Dave let’s me know when he’s out of the bush.
At least in my world if I kill one in the first hour I still consider that hunting. Shot an elk once in the first minute of the first day. Was a great HUNT!
I have to admit, I’m certainly glad my guide called me off that first bull on the first day, otherwise I would have lost out on the total experience, which was amazing.
Happy for him, happier for me.
