Wisconsin Hunter Bags State’s First Archery Elk in Modern History
Rocky Mountain elk were reintroduced to Wisconsin in the mid-1990s after the species was locally extirpated
A Wisconsin hunter working on an archery Super Slam has taken the state’s first bow-killed elk in at least 140 years. Dan Evenson, of Cambridge, shot the 6-by-7 bull on October 15 in the Clam Lake area after drawing one of only three elk tags awarded in a state lottery that attracted more than 25,000 applications.
That’s awesome congrats to the hunter
Danny is a killer. And apparently pretty lucky too…

His Elk should hold the state archery record for a long time, since only 10 or less tags a year are issued, and firearms have been the overwhelming weapon of choice. This is the Only archery killed elk since seasons have been allowed starting 2018
He sure did hit the lottery on this tag one of three hunters to get a 2022 Wisconsin elk tag in the state draw; 25,742 applied. There are tags allocated to Indians and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Excellent! P&Y caliber elk plus a big bodied elk. Dan has had a heck of year!
For real, Kurt. Seems like every week I get a new pic of another animal Dan killed!
Great accomplishment I'm happy for this guy.
Can’t wait to eat some of it next week, congrats again Danny!!
My trapping friends , friend guided that.hunt. I think there is another one, but might be wrong
Congrats again Danny. Heck of a year you’re having!
Wow...congratulations! I just sent this to my Wyoming buddy. He moved there from Wisconsin just for elk hunting.
Nicely done. Looks like an easy pack out, ie, with lots of friends.
Great for archery. Congrats.
Congratulations! Beautiful bull!
So it takes 8 guys to kill a game farm Elk?
Incredible! Congratulations Dan!
Hell of a Bull--------->
So, Mossback guides in Wisconsin now? hehe
Good luck, Robb
Congratulations! Well done!
Congrats Dan! Incredible experience!
We now know where the golden horseshoe resides. Congrats Danny!!!
Awesome! When was this killed? They all look to be in cold weather gear (one with his hood up) and we only had about 2 cold days like this in the midwest.
Congrats to the successful hunter! First archery bull in Wisconsin is pretty cool!
SB- “game farm” bull? WRONG AGAIN! LOL! ;-)
So it takes 8 guys to kill a game farm Elk?
Would think it's not hard to find help on a once-in-a-lifetime tag like this. And do you just assume every big elk killed outside of a western state is a game farm animal?
Great bull, pretty awesome to kill it with a bow.
Now someone get that man a laxative so he can share the luck.
Congrats, and nice to see a realistic score on the elk. I assume the 287” is a “green” NET score?
Congrats on an awesome bull!
So cool! Couldn't have happened to a better guy either! Congrats again Danny!
Congrats to Dan - great animal, and very cool that it's wisco!
That bull scored 287? That shows what I know about scoring elk. I would have thought it would score considerably more.
I dont know what's better, shooting that Elk or actually drawing the tag lol.
Either way awesome Elk
Congrats again Danny!
You’ve bow killed more critters in the past three years than most kill in a lifetime!!
An even bigger milestone is in your sights!!!
