Grandson RJ Mcandrew
My grandson in Michigan decided to play football this fall as a freshman in high school. As expert grandpa I gave him my best advice. Football sucks, unless you’re going to be good at it it’ll ruin hunting season. My opinion came from good friend Mike Turner who was an all American linebacker in college. He didn’t start bow hunting seriously until he graduated. Mike was excited RJ and younger brother Nolan were playing his sport instead of just lacrosse and made it to some games to coach. Mike had driven the boys across the country to antelope hunt with me in Wyoming as had another friend Stan Delabbio. As a result RJ had shot two bucks with his bow. Jv football went ok and the last game was Thursday. He had a lacrosse tournament on the weekend in Indianapolis so he was looking forward to Monday. So his mom had to take him to the doctor to deal with living with diabetes ,after that back to the school to turn in equipment. Of course then mom raced him home so he could get out hunting behind the house. I had just said to my son Luke that RJ must not have had any luck as it was pretty late when my phone rang. Seeing RJ and his buck brought the exact feelings that I remember from 35 years ago when I got my hands on my bighorn ram high on a Colorado mountain. RJ had gotten a 20 yd shot on the buck of his dreams and it went 40-50 yards. And that’s really all I started out planning to post. Proud of my grandson, thankful for all of my friends and family !

It's so refreshing to see our sons and grandsons to be picking up on the legacy of their Papas! It is truly what it is all about.....Real bowhunting! Papa was not there for the kill, but I guarantee his words were ringing in RJ's head during and after the shot. Nice shooting RJ!!! You can play football and get some hunting in, the best of both worlds!!!

I know you’re a damn proud grandpa, Randy, and with good reason. The multiple trips you take every year to spend time with your grandkids in Michigan and North Dakota are paying off. They’re all great athletes and bow shooters. Congrats to you and RJ!
