Is buckthorn really that bad?Contributors to this thread:
I cut down some buckthorn and the deer started eating the leaves. I thought there was no value in buckthorn. How bad can it be if it provide food and cover. What does everyone think?
It crowds out all other plant life it becomes a mono-culture. After a clear-cut logging operation, Seen vast hillsides become nothing but buckthorn, no birch, maples, oaks etc, etc, etc,
More life in a diverse landscape. More deer in a diverse landscape. I suspect buckthorn is low on a deers goto food list.
