Based on the calculation that a dog' one year equals 7 years of a human's life, at 13. 9 years, Chase is 91 years old and on his very last leg, so tomorrow Tricia and I have decided to put him down per the local vet, but will bury him in the back yard raspberry garden tomorrow.

What a wonderful dog he has been and I know he has entertained a lot of you in the Yard Hopper Goose series for the past 10 years. Ten months ago I thought I would take him on his last duck hunt but he surprised me by still being around this duck season so I was obligated to take him this year, just two weeks ago for his last and final hunt. While he was unable to actually be at the hunt site, he did help me set up the blind and decoys, and then after the hunt, I threw a duck for him to retrieve which he did in high fashion.

Tomorrow Tricia and I will cry a lot in his memory, over his grave site. We will place a few of his play things and a Senior Hunt Test ribbon he achieved a few years back with him so he will have something to remember the good times in Puppy Heaven.

All of our dogs have been special and all they ask is some loving, and really ask nothing in return but give us their all.

Sorry to hear you’re losing a friend. I have a chocolate lab that is currently 13 years and 11 months who’s not going to make it much longer. I’m dreading the day.

Very sorry what you are going through. Sounds like Chase had the best life.

Paul, so sorry that you have to put your best friend down. My wife and I have been there too many times outselves with our Labs, and it never gets easier. Remember all the good times, and he will always be with you in some fashion.

We may get a new best friend from time to time, but none of them ever get replaced with the new model.

Condolences to you and the wife.

So sorry to hear this, Paul. We knew the time was coming, but it’s definitely never an easy thing to do, especially when a pet has brought us so much joy and companionship over the years. Chase has given so many Bowsiters a ton of enjoyment by proxy, plus we still have the ability to relive many of them, with a few simple clicks. Our hearts are with you and Tricia in this bittersweet time. RIP Chase the Wonderdog.

All went well this morning at 11 am at the local vet office. Prior to that we lifted Chase into the back of the truck and place him in my Jet Sled for easy transport later in the day. They administrated the drug and within a few seconds his eyes were closing and within a minute, the vet stated, "his heart has stopped". I placed my hand on his still warm body and thank him for the gift that he was for over 13 years.

Tricia and I just finished lowering him into the grave in the middle for the back yard raspberry patch. Chase rapped in a sheet, we placed the attached picture, his license tags, a spent shot gun shell and 13 dog treats for use in the after life.

Thank you all for all of your kind remarks. That made this task much more tolerable for sure. Having the new lab pup, Teal, also helped in this transition.

Rough to read your account of his last moments, Paul. Brought back recent vivid memories of the same end with my best buddy, Trapper, as I petted him in the back of my pickup while the vet injected him. Tough day for you two. Enjoy Teal!

So sorry to read this, they're never just dogs. Mine have never really left, because I'll never forget them - a good dog lives on forever! Tough day for sure, but eventually you'll smile because it happened. Enjoy Teal, and the memories of Chase!

I'm very sorry to hear this news Paul. I always enjoyed reading about Chase's adventures with you. And it was nice to get to see him at the Bowsiters get together a couple weeks ago and give him some scratches. I know you and Tricia will cherish all the fond memories.

My lab is also named Chase. He is 11 1-/2;years. The dog is the best grouse dog I ever owned, and I have trained pointers for 40 years. Your Chase went over the Rainbow Bridge. You will see him again. God Bless.

I'm so sorry Paul. Wish we never had to tell these stories. Somehow it helps us grieve and heal, I think. Sorry you and the Mrs have to go through it.

I've dug many a hole to bury my dogs (labs) over the years. Its never easy. My sons dog (Olde English Bulldog) will have to be put to sleep soon and I'm not looking forward to that. She has developed bone cancer in her front shoulder joint . We've been told its a common ailment for that breed as it ages. Paul, like I told you several years ago. Chase was one of the finest looking labs that I have ever seen. His Labrador features were outstanding. (Shape of head, tail, front chest, height, size, etc.) RIP old boy

I agree BK, he was one of the best looking labs I’ve ever seen. He would be what an artist would paint when painting a Black Lab.

well guys, that put a tear in my eye. Here is a pic of Teal, he will be 6 months old on Dec. 6, now weight 50# heading for 72# at maturity in 6-8 month. He is full of piss and vinegar for sure, but smart, unafraid, and bold. I am going to have my hands full with this one. He might look cute here, but look out! my best, Paul

Paul, I'm going out on a limb here and say if I or someone on Bowsite needed a babysitter for our pet's, it would be you... your love for nature is obvious.
